I am trying to create a wav from real tracks, so no MIDI data is present, why does BIAB need a midi synth to be present to simply create wav files from audio files?

Which version of BIAB are you using?

I remember this used to be a requirement, but I thought they had fixed it. That being said, just install the Coyote WT that comes with BIAB and you'll have a DX synth. I think it has to do with the way the audio gets rendered, whether from MIDI or from RealTracks. You should report it to PGMusic, but in the interim, you should be able to install the Coyote WT (although, I wonder if the problem is related to the problems you have been having with the TTS-1, also a DXi synth).

Thanks John.

Latest version of BIAB. I couldn't find the Coyote WT that is supposed to come with BIAB. I looked in the BB directory and among all my BIAB install file folders and cannot locate it? It appears in the MIDI options box, however no midi tracks (when I happe to load a MIDI style) actually sound?

So either it is not installed or not installed correctly perhaps?

If it's in the MIDI options box, then it should already be installed. If it were not installed, it would not be present as an option.

One other thing to try is to go to your Audio Settings screen and make sure the box marked "Use RealTime VST/DX audio Plugins" is checked.

Further, in the VST/Dxi options box the top most slot (the one for the default synth) does NOT show the Coyote as an option.

Does it show "Coyote Forte Dxi" or "ForteDXi"

FortDXi is the better unit, so probably should be used instead of Coyote.

I just installed the demo version of the Coyote dxi - I can now create wav files. I'll see what happens in 30 days when the demo expires..maybe even though it's not usable after that time I'll still be able to create wav files.

Thanks for your help.

I'm glad you got it working.

Since you said Demo Version of Coyote DXi, I presume you mean the Coyote Forte (as the Coyote WT is fully functional). Since that works, you now have DXi MIDI capability. You can also install the Coyote WT concurrently (however, the Coyote Forte sounds much better).

I believe that if you want to keep the Coyote Forte, it costs $40 for a license code that unlocks the software. I've had it since it came out many, many, many years ago.

Once the demo period runs out, you either get silence or blips in your music (I can't remember which). And you can't uninstall/reinstall to get more time, as it remembers your previous install.

There really aren't a lot of choices for general MIDI: the Coyote WT, the Coyote Forte, the Cakewalk TTS-1 (which you get when you buy one of the Cakewalk DAWs), or one of the handful of Soundfont based Synth VSTi's (such as SynthFont).

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
