Ok, now you have gone so deep into the Hegelian dialectic JohnJohnJohn that I am going to have to dig out my Schopenhauer just to follow the thesis and the antithesis of the original posited position in order to reverse engineer the conversation to the contradiction of the elliptical afterthought of the tension between the two resolutions of the conclusion.

That being said, I will leave it up to PG Music to figure this out.

Me: you can't create modern songs with BIAB in the same easy way you can create classic bluegrass or classic country or classic rock songs
Others: Yes you can
Me: Cool, show me how
Others: You can't
Me: um, ok...maybe in a future version?

AMP (Advanced Music Production) offers an online video course with over 30 hours of videos, 30 + pdf files, and samples that will show you how to compose modern music in any modern genre step by step.... *** I have no affiliation with AMP but have taken this course "Music Programming". For me, it was worth every cent it cost ***

It includes how to make your own high quality samples and loops and once you have learned to do that, the author shows you step by step how to produce and compose music. He calls it programming music. Relate making your samples and loops from isolated generated tracks as well as existing BIAB user forum originals and it will be quite clear how BIAB's 2,500+ hours of audio, Midi style, RealTrack styles, sgu files is a enormous untapped library for modern music composition.

David is right on the money with his analysis and acceptance of BIAB as a major player in those genres.

He is also correct it is the individuals creativity and ability to write a great song that will lead to a successful song or not. The tools are there in BIAB.

The processes are simple but it is not easy to do....

Charlie

Just listened and my favorite part is your lovely (as always) vocals! In fact, I'd love this as a classic folk song with your amazing Baez-like vocals!

As I explore this further, one of the things I think I am looking for is some serious dynamics in a song. For example, listen to the build and explosion in I Bet My Life or in Chandelier. They use loops and some of the other techniques that have been discussed here but they also do amazing things with the dynamics.

And you don't have to convince me! smile We can have a conversation and we might not agree and that's ok! I still appreciate the conversation!

No problem at all John. Personally I think the strength of the Chandelier is the song itself. That and the fact that it was recorded in a million dollar studio with million dollar arrangers and engineers, with million dollar plugins...

Yeah, you are probably right on all counts about Chandelier.

Slightly off the topic...but now that I have listened to several of your songs over at SongTradr.com would you mind me asking how you like that? I have sold instrumentals at Audio Jungle but the competition there is so fierce that only a few sales straggle in every month! Plus, I'd like to produce some songs with vox too and they wouldn't work well at Audio Jungle.

Do they charge you to submit? Do they require their approval of your submissions?

It is very cheap to submit. $4 buys you loads of credits.

There are two types of opportunities. "Deals" and "music wanted". Deals are for blanket type licenses and libraries. Here is a compilation album that one of my songs appears on. http://www.deezer.com/track/399901362

The payment terms for these varies.

Music wanted are for specific opportunities for specific clients and tend to look more lucrative that deals. They can pay up to $1000 to use your song in a movie or advert etc. the songs submitted to these opps need to be very specific to the brief (otherwise you will probably get a bad name!) and I am sure there is loads of competition for these.

They review each song submitted and then shortlist, then send to the music supervisor for final selection, then license.

So far, my songs have only been licensed for deals but I currently have 2 in final selection for music wanted.

Thanks for the info Joanne. I was wondering how licensing worked. I'll have to look into that site.

On another note, I decided to turn the little instrumental I made yesterday into a full blown song. Here's the link for the Shocase thread it's under.

Great Samuel. Let me know how it goes. Just had a listen to your latest. I think it would be good for licensing.

Since I started it, I guess I get the right to post??

smile

The song above Oh by The way was done with the use of BIAB and I ran across it as I am remastering for an album.

As stated in the original post, BIAB was with me all the way through.

1.) I wrote piano riff.

2.) I use chord wizard to tell me what chords I was playing.

3.) I used those chords to form the backbone of the structure, but embellishing and inverting for the chorus.

4.) I used a BIAB style to give me a start (see OP) then added my own synth parts, and a few extra guitars in places.

I was not going for "modern" I was going for "David Snyder" but I am pretty happy with the results and there is no way I could have pulled this off without Band in a Box.

Autumn Leaves Video Tutorial - Band-in-a-Box Backing Tracks!

Forum user Lot2Learn recently shared their Autumn Leaves - Jazz Piano Tutorial video to our I just heard Band-in-a-Box on YouTube forum, it's approaching 1.7 million views!

Songwriting Feedback - "Why This Forum Matters"

Our Forum is a great resource when you're wanting to discuss Band-in-a-Box (or other PG Music Inc. programs), but it's so much more!

In addition to the different sections we have for our products (Band-in-a-Box, RealBand, PowerTracks, and Other PG Music Programs), there are also places on our Forum to share your songs, YouTube videos, ask for tech help for problems not related to our software, "off topic" discussions, and more!

Forum user David Snyder shared his thoughts on Why This Forum Matters in his recent Songwriting post, which has some great feedback, including:

It occurred to me this morning that it is the group effort that counts. That is, one kind word about another member's song, one piece of encouragement or generous suggestion, might cause that person to write the greatest song ever written, which might then go on to have a massive impact on some stranger's life, cause someone to fall in love, or turn their life around, and literally change the course of history. Because songs do that.

OR, one kind word given to YOU might cause you to write the greatest song ever written in the coming year, and that song could go on to have an impact on untold thousands. Who knows! It happens all the time.

But the point is, it is not about any one of us, it is about all of us, the group.

Read through the whole conversation (and join in!): http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=447431

...and a big THANK YOU to David for sharing his thoughts!
