Hi,

For those who may not know the December issue of Computer Music magazine has Sonar Home Studio and Rapture Session on the cover mount DVD.
Sonar Home Studio includes the excellent Overloud TH3 Cakewalk guitar amp sim.
Well worth a pint or two. !!

Regards
Brian

Sonar Home Studio has previously been mentioned a few times in the forum. While it essentially replaces another Cakewalk product called Music Creator they don't serve the same function. Home Studio is considered a professional grade DAW and is part of the Sonar family while Music Creator was a standalone, consumer grade DAW sold in retail stores like BestBuy.

Home Studio is about a year old now (Nov. 2017). Most Sonar products receive monthly upgrades but Home Studio is updated as needed. It received it's first upgrade earlier this week.

One notable limitation is Home Studio DOES NOT work on Windows 7 or XP operating systems. Home Studio is designed for use on Windows 8 & Windows 10 operating systems. Also, it will not work on Mac operating systems.

At $49 I'd latch onto it except it won't run on my computers.

Hi Jim,

I downloaded the Home Studio demo from Cakewalk, have installed and it seems to work on my Windows 7 64bit.
I assume the Computer Music version is the same ?? but have not tried it yet.

Regards
Brian

My understanding is it works but is not supported.

PG Music +++ continues to sell Music Creator 7 +++ . I assume this is because many here use Windows 7 and a few still use XP.

One other thing I missed, Music Creator 7 is available only as a 32 bit program while Home Studio is available in both 32 and 64 bit formats. Program accessories likewise are in 32 bit or 64 bit formats in Sonar Home Studio so if you download the 64 bit version accessories like the TTS-1 midi sound module will not work with Band-in-a-Box or RealBand. However, order Music Creator 7 through PG Nusic and all the accessories will work in BiaB or RB since everything is native 32 bit.

JBridge will not work in this instance because it works with VSTs. TTS-1 is a DXI.

Thanks Brian,

Here is a way if anyone wants it to get the offer if you don't want or cant get the magazine.

I signed up for a free trial app on google play, called "Readly" after seeing an ad for it a few days ago, its an app that allows you to read over 2,000 mags each month for a set fee but does offer a free trial as well. I think its only available on ipad or android, not windows.

https://gb.readly.com/

Do a search for the "Computer Music " mag there in the app on your tablet, and the current one with the offer on page 64 of computer music will give you full details of how to go to Cakewalk and download Home Studio.

I have installed and activated it and it does seem quite a nice Daw.

There is also an extensive bundle of loops with it as well, which have to be downloaded separately.

This bundle includes the following:

- Big Fish - Urban Loop Collection
- Big Fish - Rock & Pop Rock Loop Collection
- Big Fish - Electro Pop Loop Collection
- Big Fish - Country Loop Collection
- Big Fish - Cinematic Loop Collection

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
