There are really two parts to this post.

Around two years ago my good friend and fellow forumite Don Gaynor sent me
a superb backing track which he'd written, asking me if I could add a guitar melody
to it, and the result was "Maybelle". Some of you will have heard it already.

Now, half of my family is Scottish and for many years we lived on the beautiful
Isle of Skye. Our son Neil, who is a commercial photographer, goes back
there often and has a collection of stunning photos which I thought might make
a good video. When looking for some music to accompany it, I thought - what better
soundtrack could there be than Don's haunting "Maybelle". So here it is.

MAYBELLE THE VIDEO

Thanks to Don and Neil for their part in this.

ROG.

Loved it! Didn't hear it the first time around, so thanks for posting it again.

One of the best instrumentals I have heard on this site, well done to you both!

I have been to the Isle of Skye BTW, 10 years ago my wife and I toured Scotland for a few weeks. A magical place!

This is my first time hearing this - and wow, you and Don nailed this! This instrumental evokes some wonderfully imagery for me. It is calming, and almost has a nostalgic quality to it.

I hope to one day visit the Isle of Skye myself. My entire mother's side is full Scottish, and both my grandfather and my mother have told me how stunningly beautiful it is there. I unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to visit myself, though it is very high on my bucket list to visit.

Great work, and thank you so much for sharing smile

Cheers,

ROG,

I knew it that you would only improve on, what I had already considered being perfection and, again, I was right. You don't stop at half-measures, my friend.

I originally composed "Maybelle" as a tribute to "The Queen of Country Music" Mother Maybelle Carter. I merely laid the rhythm bed with BIAB then passed the baton to ROG who overlaid several awesome guitar tracks in his UK studio. I am thrilled with the final result.

Thank you, ROG!

ROG,
Stunning images for a gorgeous tune... heard this before and it remains one of the best instrumenals on the forum.
I especially like the country twang your lead adds to the melody.
Wonderful!

Guys and gals,

After viewing this on YouTube, a DJ friend in London, Sid Randall, emailed me to say that he is scheduling it in for airplay soon and that he will notify me with date/time when it is scheduled.

With the time difference, it is normally in US prime time so I hope that our PG Music friends will tune in. Roger and I would certainly appreciate it.

There is a chat window where you can thank Sid live.

Mario, old phart,

A comment from you is especially pleasant. Thank you, dear friend.

I expect it to air from New Zealand and Scotland Hospital Radio too.

Neil,

I suspect that you have inherited the blessing or curse of perfection from your dad. Your photography is top notch. It's a real honor and privilege to contribute to such gorgeous work.

Thank you sincerely.

I hope to continue further collaborations in the near future.

Is there still a link to the old so I can hear the differences?

Eddie,

Just follow either of the links in my signature and scroll to "Maybelle" to hear the original version.

Thanks for your interest. That is very encouraging and spurs us on to more collabs.

And, yes, ROG's guitar work is immediately recognizable. Top shelf playing.

Thank you SO much to everyone who watched the video - we've been overwhelmed by
all the positive and generous comments.

Thanks too, must go to Don for being part of the team and just generally being an inspiration.

We had a great time with this project and we're pleased everyone seemed to enjoy the results.

Thanks again to all,

ROG and Neil.

ROG, Don and Neil,

That was a stunning journey in audio/visual.

Neil, your photography is amazing. You must have spent many hours hiking to some less hospital regions of the island to get some of these photos.

Don, your backing is superb. I love the chord progression and the warm, easy feel of the backing. The drums with brushes are very soothing to listen to.

ROG, your melody is wonderful and it stays in the mind long after the song is done. I particularly like the tone of your guitar and the mixing. As is always the case with your work, you consistently deliver material that can only be described as professional through and through.

All the best to everyone,
Noel

We are on a short trip to the mountains and relaxing in a wonderful B&B...but, of course, with a nice sound system to stream to and what a treat this video is!

We recall the lovely melody and the video brings it even more alive. Thanks for adding to a great day!

Kudos and a shoutout to Neil for the great photos.

Greg, Jim, Noel and J&B - many thanks for watching and listening.

We really enjoyed this project and, of course, it's always a delight to
work with my old pal Don.

Glad you all enjoyed it.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
