My first time playing gig was last year at our local library for a monthly cultural day. I was getting some critique from a long time musician guy who plays and makes harps and he and his wife liked my songs. He was also in charge of scheduling performers for our local library cultural events. I did my first paying gig at age 64 and played for an hour and a half, all my original songs. Had a great audience of appreciative folks and am scheduled again for this summer. I had always liked music my entire life but never had the time to pursue it until about six years ago. So glad it's now a part of my life. I know a number of people in their 70s who are getting music lessons, so good on you Belladonna, it's so rewarding when you get a good crowd who appreciate what you can do.

I can't remember my second one, although I can remember a lot of them from the era, just not the order.
Notes
Same here, I remember a few of the memorable gigs from back then, just no idea of the sequence. And I remember the last gig I played, but that was only a few years ago and it was special because I knew it would be the last one.

1st paid gig was in high school, I think we played at a community center. It was an 8 piece band that split off from the school “dance” band. I remember it paid about $5, just enough for a pizza and cokes and about $2 left over-1958. My first paid union gig was on Halloween when I was 18. I was sent out as a sideman to play at a biker bar in a real bad part of town.......I knew I was going to die that night!

I mentioned in another thread about how my first band started in 9th grade when several of us identified other classmates who actually owned instruments and were proficient enough with them to learn songs. Given that starting point, our first paying gig was most likely at a school dance... but there were so many teen dances in those days you could stand blindfolded anywhere in town, spin around and throw a stone and you'd probably hit a place where teens congregated to hear live music.
The early gigs were private parties, schools, churches etc because we were too young to join the union and play at the more upscale venues. You had to be 16 to join the union, but we were only 14 at the time. By the time we were old enough we already had 2 years of steady gigging under our belts and an established reputation.
Before joining the union, most gigs paid in the $25-$40 range... so with 5 band members we each got $5 to $8. Just enough money to keep strings on the guitar.

I remember playing at Porky's lounge (which was nothing like the movies they made about it). Probably 1% based on fact 50% outlandish exaggeration and 50% had nothing to do with it.
They paid $10 per person per night in the middle 1960s. It didn't matter how big the band was. And then, that was good money.
My printer's apprentice job paid $43/week after taxes, I was doing 6 nights at Porky's, and the newspaper wanted to put me on the night shift. Easy choice for me.
I was way too young to legally drink in the bar, but it was a lot more exciting and fun that standing at a proof press all day. My first after-shool summer job bit the dust, and the beginning of my vocation entered.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
