Notation displayed for all instruments is everything from intro to ending.
As not all instruments might need to be heard all of the time however, I sometimes need sheet music reflecting that.
For example I might have two guitars come in and out at different places, sometimes solo, sometimes counterpoint ..
.. or I might *build* a string quartet and have Cello, Viola and Violins come and go selectively/individually at times for musical color.
Instruments are of course routinely rested anyway for a number of bars.
I bring instruments in and out via the Bar Settings menu, Muting and Back-to-Normaling them where appropriate and then the audio plays the Parts as designated.
The Notation however isn't blanked-out for the muted/unplayed sections, and whilst notes can be deleted manually I wonder if there is an option NOT to notate for unplayed sections? It would seem to be such a standard thing to do, and eliminate the manual task and also any unnoticed slips that might creep in.
I have looked at related settings for a "don't show muted bars" box for example, but haven't found a feature that does that.
Can those familiar with BIAB's Notation facility and use it to produce Parts let me know if there is a way to do that other than manually editing them out note by note?
Seems it could be a wishlist item if not, though probably less straightforward to achieve than the simple "ignore muted sections" instruction initially makes it appear.
Thanks!

hannay, BIAB's notation editor is designed for creation of lead sheets. And for those, it does a great job. What you are doing is sophisticated by comparison and beyond BIAB's design. While it's possible (to some extent) to develop some work arounds, for notating orchestrally, it would be best to export a midi file, or maybe an XML file, and load it into fully-fledged notation software. I use MuseScore. It's free and there are a number of video clips on Youtube on how to use it. Once you get the hang of how it works, MuseScore excellent. Like most things musical, though, there is a bit of a learning curve associated with gaining understanding. Regards, Noel

Hi Noel - again I use Musescore for various tasks/edits/etc, and I can achieve what I want there too via file transfers just as you mention ... ... but I was just wondering if BIAB's abilities extended to *blanking-out* muted notation when printing. It would be a handy option. If it did, then I could do what I want right there just by clicking that option and then clicking "print", without intermediate steps/processing necessary. Seemed worthwhile checking anyway ... "mute=0", on the surface not a massive leap ... or maybe

I'm not aware that muted notation can be blanked out.
Why not make a request in the Wishlist forum?
At worst, nothing will happen but if you bring it up and briefly explain the how and why, BIAB developers will read it and weigh up the whether it's possible and worthwhile.
Regards, Noel

I will do that ... it was already on my mind to make it a wishlist item if it wasn't an existing option. Thanks.

Yes, this is a very good idea. I don’t even know why someone would want to see the muted section, but perhaps it should be an option.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
