Hi, friends !

Been quite a long time since I´ve been
able to do some new stuff ! I wrote a
couple of songs that I haven´t been able to
produce the way I should like (maybe my
self chriticism has grown over the years)
This little surf tune I had to do together
with the Daniettes and so I have to thank them
so very much for their sweet backing !

Here are the links to the music:

http://soundcloud.com/user-337827005/surfins-goin-on

http://app.box.com/s/uo7mmaaxbw0usqoukprk428bk1z11k81

...and here are the lyrics:

SURFIN´S GOIN´ ON (music and lyrics by Norman Wibe)

You know that I´ve been travelin far and wide, oh my darlin´
´cause I´ve been chasing those waves all over the world
and I´ve been surfin´ both tidal waves and big, big, mav´ricks alike
feelin´that urge to surf again deep inside

My sweet little darlin´won´t you help me pack our gear now
´cause we´ll just have to fly so far away
the airplane leaves at five today, and there´s no chance to stay
Let´s hurry darlin´, don´t stop, come what may

Surfin´s goin´on
no more turfin´along

The boards are ready and so should we, now my darlin´
let´s stuff the rest all back in the trunk of my car
we need to get ev´rything on board as we´ll be travelin´so far
there we´ll be just you and me afar

Surfin´s goin´on
no more turfin´along

Surfin´s larger than life I don´t need to tell you
and you´ll be havin´the happiest time of your life
ridin´on the crest of those wonderful waves
you´ll gonna feel the bliss
that´s the thing you´ll always gonna miss
that´s the thing you´ll always gonna miss
that´s the thing you´ll always gonna miss

The Style is LARRY.STY (Larry Shuffle Style)
and the instros are:

Bass: 34, Elec Piano: 6, Drums: RD:s Pop Shuffle
Guitar: 24, Organ: 19 Rock Organ and the
Daniettes are Voice Oohs: 54 Voice Oohs

Recorded with Mixcraft 8 on my laptop
Compression and reverb used !

Cheers
Dani

Very well done smile Love the harmonies here. It sounds really lush and is a great throwback to the classic surfer rock style. The vocals are spot on here, and there's some great progressions too.

Great work - thanks for sharing!

Cool one, Dani.

Your "Beach Boys thing" gets better with each offering. Nice harmonies and the Oohs and Aahs really work well.

You captured that 60's sound well.

Nice that the "boys" are back!

We enjoyed the imagery, vocals and the textured production.

I had bleached hair, I had a board and I was a lousy surfer! Guess it took more than that.

We really enjoyed this Dani.

Hi Dani48,

I was torn about writing this post, because I want to be clear from the start that this is an excellent song. It's lots of fun and it really does capture that Beach Boys vibe. But I just thought you should know that -- and this comes from a native English speaker -- you might think about some minor modifications to the lyrics. First, "The boards are ready and so should we" doesn't really work. Maybe nobody else found that jarring, but I did. You could say "the boards are ready and so should we be," with "be" at the end there, but since "be" is not part of a rhyme, maybe something like "The boards are ready and we are, too," might work better. And secondly, "afar" is a word used only in poetry; no English speaker would really say "you and me afar." Maybe you could work in "there we are" or something.

But I want to be clear, I just said that in the spirit of helpfulness to someone that I thought might be operating in a second language. With or without these notes, your song is a lot of fun. I wish I could come up with songs like that, and I enjoyed it a lot.

Have fun,
Buttrey

Hi Danny,

As soon as this started, I was tempted to look for some bell-bottom jeans, some beads and let my hair grow!

This is really nice - great vocals and the production is terrific. Like the key modulation, too. Really cool!

Hi, Buttery !

Thank you for your concern
about my bad english ! I do
appreciate that you corrected me
though I guess you would not
let me some artistic freedom
regarding the lyrics !
I could have written : " The boards
are ready and so are we" but I
wanted to point out the urgent
situation by " so should we"
knowing very well it was not correct !
I just did not want to rewrite the
passage - I´m sorry for having
stepped on your toes !

Using afar instead of rewriting the
passage was another deliberate
misuse from my side, sorry for that
too !

I am glad that you nonetheless
liked the tune and want to thank
you for your most kind words regarding
it !

Cheers
Dani

Dani,

I loved it!

You're fast becoming the ultimate forum expert in that classic surf sound with those amazing 'Jan and Dean' and 'Beachboy' harmonies.

I found it absolutely impossible to sit still while I was listening to your song. By around bar 2 or 3, my feet were tapping, my fingers were tapping and I was smiling. Thanks for sending 3 minutes of enjoyment my way!

All the best of summer and sunshine to you and Lin,
Noel

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
