In earlier versions, one could sort items in the list by clicking on the appropriate column heading. No longer does column sort work.

In earlier versions, one could quickly navigate to a song title by entering the starting letter for that song. This no longer works, and requires manual navigation. There is no way to quickly navigate to a song title.

Additionally, the song appear to be sorted by default in folder/sub-folder order and not alphabetically.

Please re-introduce the original important functionality.

There is no longer a way to select a song to "play when chosen"

+1 in support of the requests made by VideoTrack and Tony Wright to return to earlier StylePicker version behavior:

A) Sort by clicking on the appropriate column heading

B) Quickly navigate to a song title by entering the starting letter for the first word in the song title

C) Sort by song title, not folder / sub folder hierarchy

D) Reinstate the checkbox option that permits "play when chosen" when the checkbox is checked. Hopefully the default will be enabled.

+1 here.
VideoTrack:
Have you mentioned this directly to the Support Group?
Not sure how closely they monitor Wishlists at this busy time of year.

Thanks!

Also, see this post.
When using the Song Picker, the cursor should stay in its last position and not reset itself to the beginning of the song listings.

And, when scrolling through the real tracks picker, as I often do, an earlier BIAB version allowed you to tap on a letter, such as “P” to get to pianos (or pedal steel) and it jumped immediately. That feature disappeared several versions back. You have to start with “accordion” and scroll down manually. Unless I’m doing something wrong.

Just another thought :

Why did they remove from the songpicker some features that were well working ?

It would be useful for the users to get PGM people to comment this post.
It is not the first time that we don't understand some choices made by PGM in this program.

Dang it, PGM, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Also -- I don't recall offhand, but did the Song Picker used to stay at the last song you picked, or has it always reset itself to the beginning each time you went back to browse? I though it stayed where I left it, but I can't say for sure. It definitely doesn't now. There's a way to get the Style Picker to stay put. Seems like the Song Picker should have this same feature. Or requirement.

Previously during your current BiaB session it stayed on the last song selected.

Come one PG Music.

You hear the voices of the very people that have made your company successful beyond your wildest dreams and bring this feature back.

I have yet to hear 1 single person who likes the removal of these needed features we have come to love over the past years.

Did anyone in your 2019 planning meetings voice the opinion that the thousands of users will love it if we take these features out without asking their opinion?

Bring these 5 features back please.

E) Bring back the Last Used Directory feature so we don't have to keep clicking our mice to get to where we really want to be.

I got an email from support saying the 611 build fixed these issues. It fixed a couple...the song picker will now load to the current song and any song will play when doubled clicked. However, you still can't select the first letter of the next song and have the list jump to the songs that begin with that letter.I have sent another email pointing this out.

Yes, yes, and yes. Also, support for a large number of songs is still not fixed. It is supposed to support up to 50,000 songs. My folder with 40,000 gets processed, but it only displays a subset (I can tell because it stops at the letter "L". You bump up against an arbitrary file size limit (at least that's what the error message seems to indicate).

Some sorts need at least twice the size of the records being sorted, for the sort to work. Think of a Move as a Copy followed by Delete. Granted, these are inefficient algorithms, but it might be what's happening here. It would seem the limit should just be increased and then we'll know.

They also still need to bring the ability back to start up BIAB in the last used directory instead of the Home folder. I, like many other BIAB users, have many home folders, not just one.

+1 to all of this. Can't believe that PG threw one of the best song features out with the trash. Can't sort by title, tempo, key, date, style...you have got to be kidding me! Don't understand the rationale for this at all.

Jeff: I would love to hear PG Musics rational on this decision. It obviously was discussed at some pre-planning meetings for the 2019 upgrade.

I think - but have absolutely no proof - that there was much excitement from PG Music about introducing new features in the new Song Picker (preview of chords, setting the home folder etc) that other established functionality was overlooked.

A ridiculously short time-frame was all that was allotted for pre-release testing. Regardless, you can be assured that the song picker issues were found and reported.

All I do know is the answer to the above is yes and yes. No mention of when though. I did think this would be sorted out by now.

PGM often seem to hurry to bring new features to market at the expense of ensuring that they 1)really work, and 2) don't affect an existing feature. This is not the first time it has happened, and for sure it will not be the last.

They are not alone. There is an uproar over on the Kontakt site because Kontakt 6 eliminated the all important database. So if you want an oboe sound for example you have to remember where it was located. Many of us have a lot of Kontakt and third part patches so that database was important.

To be fair, I have used Kontakt (and tons of other music software products) and have never seen an upgrade that had broken features anything like the BIAB VST.

A quote for quote's sake, and that's not some Japanese rice drink: this doggone VST seems more useful to me, if it works and i wouldn't have to set my Cooking Alarm for 10 minutes each and every time i throw it in the ring, than the VideoTracking business from last year ever was. So let PG face it's own music; who knows they'll come up with a great tool after all ... but i'm fed up testing it, i'll wait 'till there's a green light ... And we need more fixes than only the VST BTW.

I was astonished missing out on old, useful features in the song picker after having skipped a few versions of Biab.
Really annoying.....

I have just installed 2019-613 and realized what a mess PGMusic has made with the song picker. There has been a lot of discussion here about the feature, but I didn't really understand what the issues really were or how bad the problem was.

For me, it starts immediately with the notion of a "Home Folder". I don't have all my songs in one single folder, let alone one in c/BB. My songs are well organized in several folders and exist on a jump drive. Each folder has it's own song list, and was shown in previous version of BIAB whenever I opened that folder. Now it's almost impossible to get to a specific folder and songlist. And then you can't sort the list - and I can't even figure out what the default order is.

As has been said many times in this thread - give us back the 2018 version until the 2019 works properly. I don't have any need for these fancy filters, at least none that I can see right now, so let's get a WORKING version of the song picker back in the hands of the users.

The beta testers could never have missed such a glaring error. This problem lies squarely with PGMusic.

I am still struggling with songpicker for 2019. I can work around the issue of needing all my songs in one folder by creating a dummy folder which contains all my other song folders, and I can filter the folder of songs I want by my naming convention, but I can't figure out the sequence that the songs are listed in. It doesn't appear to be alpha by song name or file name, it's not date nor style. I don't even know if it's different if I close and reopen the songpicker. I do know that "Next Song" and Previous Song" short cuts work exactly as the did in 2018. But they are no use with the new songpicker.

So frustrating... It needs to be fixed

Additionally, the song appear to be sorted by default in folder/sub-folder order and not alphabetically.

Please re-introduce the original important functionality.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
