In about 40 years of computering I have never lost a mechanical disk drive. Since using SSDs I've lost two in about 4 months.
Technician found cause to be wild fluctuations in voltages in my nursing home and recommended a USB Line Tamer UPS which I will definitely be buying.
My question concerns my audio players, both WMP and MediaMonkey. They both stop playing a playlist after only one song.
How do I set the file associations in Windows 10?
Any other tips/suggestions will be appreciated.

I’ll help with the file associations as soon I get to my PC.
As to the usb line tamer ups, that doesn’t seem to be a particular model or brand. Let us know what you are considering or if you need help choosing. You buy these by wattage ratings. Add up all the wattage of your equipment, and add 50% for safety. And only get one with a user-replaceable battery. I get my batteries from Newegg. The place where you live might also want the ability to silence the alarm when it kicks in and the power is off; I could see dozens of these sounding at the same time could be an annoyance.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HDC236Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1Matt, This is the UPS that the service technician recommended. Please suggest why my media players ( Windows Media Player and MediaMonkey ) no longer advance though the playlist since my SSD crashed. It only plays the first song/episode of Old Time Radio (OTR) then stops. I like to doze off while listening each night. It may be my file associations for .mp3. It seems that I had to associate audio files when I originally installed MediaMonkey Free. I then tried WMP, same problem.

Ok, it only handles 225 watts, so that’s enough only for a laptop with no printer or accessories. At least it can take a replacement battery. One reviewer said you can (with difficulty) silence the alarms.
I don’t know the software question about those players, sorry.

Don, APC UPSs come with what is called Power Chute software. In that software there is a disable the alarm option, at least there is on the three APS units we have here.
I just posted a selfie and all of the responses were get well soon!

Man, that sucks. Same thing happened to me back about 7 years ago and I lost some really valuable work.
Cheers, Deryk

Don, here are the steps to change your default app in Windows 10. It's long but it's straightforward: - Click on the Windows icon in the lower left
- Click on the cog wheel icon (two up) for Settings
- Click on Apps
- Click on Default Apps
- Choose Default Apps by File Type (that's one of the choices, the one I find most useful)
- Select the file extension (like MP3) after scrolling down the LONG list
- Click on the app to the right. Select from a presented list of other apps
- in the upper left, arrow your way back out

Matt,
You have made one tired and badly bent old Irishman deliriously happy yet again. That was the solution.
Now folks will understand why I loiter around these forums...there are many modest, knowledgeable folks here who never flame others for asking a civil question.
Thank you, dear friend.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
