Mama's Goin' Home]

We're finally in our new house ... and living in a cardboard box jungle! But we're really excited and pleased!

I've been without Internet for 9 days ... just got it up and going yesterday. I've not forgotten or abandoned any of you! Will catch up on my listens and commenting over the next few days as I can.

The list of the band members is on my old computer (bought a new one several days ago). Will post the tracks soon. Just a three-piece acoustic group doing their best to play a sad song ... pretty much a dirge.

Thanks for the listen and any comments you choose to leave for me. Please be safe ...

Alan

Dear Alan, dear Di,

first of all Maha and I want to congratulate you on your new home. May all sorrows always stay outside, instead let it be filled with music.

With beautiful music like 'Mama's Goin' Home'. Very different from what I've heard from you so far, but it's of theat same unmistakable wonderful 'Alan taste'.

Using that fiddle was an awesome idea - very, very, very nice !

All the best to the both of you, hugs from Maha.

Stefan

I really like this...I'm a dirge fan from way back and a Leonard Cohen fan to compound it.
Simple arrangement and excellent chord progression.
It did make we hanker for some words though.

Another quality work from that “arranger’s mind” that you possess..always seems to be the key to how you tease the best out of what the RT’s are hiding. The chord chart surprised in a few areas, in a pleasing way. Best of luck in the new nest.

Happy for you and Di, Al. Barb & I finally got into our new place, too, a couple weeks ago. It was supposed to be done early May. Well, it surely sounds like you unpacked the most important stuff first. At first this seemed like a very sad tune, and I longed to hear Mama's Comin' Home, but as the song progressed I felt like I was already there waiting for her. Well done, Al. Now try to make something out of all that cardboard.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Another excellent instrumental, Alan.

The opening phrases sounded like Tom Waits might start singing smile

An excellent mix - as always.

Congrats on the new house (and computer smile )!

Hi Tano ...

You are always very kind with your comments regarding my music. I appreciate that a lot. Whatever arrangement skills I may posses are pretty much indigenous rather than learned or "trained". It's just what comes to me arbitrarily. But I'm delighted to know it has some coherence and acceptable syntax to it. Now, if only i could sing better than a cement truck out of control!

Many thanks for your comments. Take care and be safe. best to you.

Hi Marty!

Good to hear you got into your new house so soon. I hope you and Barb enjoy yours as much as we are enjoying ours!

Thank you for the nice words about the song. It was one of those things that "just happened". I was playing around with a few RTs and when I heard the acoustic bass track, it immediately told me it was the RT I had been looking for to complete a whim that came my way several days ago. This where the whim took me.

Wishing you & Barb nothing but the very best in your new house. Take care and be safe ...

Hi Floyd ...

The Tom Waits reference hadn't come to mind until I read your comment. I can see what your hearing there. Nice analogy! the new house is slowly taking shape but will be in order soon (I hope!). Thank you for the constant support and words of encouragement... much appreciated! Take care and be safe. Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow! How exciting! Congrats on the home!

Now the song, I get, you mentioned, was to be a sad song. I definitely hear the pain there. I also hear moments of what feels like that moment of a pleasant memory that again turns back into the realization of loss. That is probably me reading WAY too far into it; but it struck me as what mourning feels like.

Very well done my friend!

Janice and Bud ...

Thanks. The house is terrific! We're loving it! Well, if this house lasts 32 years, our estate will have to deal with it! If I live long enough to pay it off, I'll b e 106 years old! I guess there' always a chance!!!

Thanks for the kindness to our song. This one just fell into p[lace will little forethought or planning from me. The chords just came to me, as they often do. But, even with whatever amount of talent I posses, it would be largely wasted without this magnificent program. It's as close to magic as it can be. It makes me look better than I am.

Wishing you both the very best. Please take care and be safe.

Hi Aaron ...

You actually read this exactly as I hoped it would come across. Mama's gone ... that's sad. Mama's going to a good place ... that's good. Mama's trouble are gone ... that's good. Mama left an indelible legacy of which we are proud ... that's excellent. That pretty much sums up my thought process as I put the various elements of the song together. You keyed into it perfectly. That's a satisfying feeling for me that you heard it as I intended it. Thank you so much for validating my effort. I'm smiling big!

Wishing you the very best. Please stay safe.

Deej ... How are you, my friend? Well, I hope. It's always a treat to hear from you.

The house is marvelous. We've been here a week today ... woohoo! Four bedrooms and three full baths. One of the bedrooms is my office, one is Di's arts and crafts room, one is a guest bedroom, and the last is the large, spacious master bedroom. With three full bathrooms, you don't have far to go when ya need to pee!

Thank you for the very nice words about the song. This one just came together from whi knows where.

Many thanks. Wishing you everything good. Take care ...

Alan,
Sad and beautiful. Nice chord movement. Strings are a bit too dry for my taste, but that is very minor. Enjoyed my listen. Thank you for sharing.

P.S.Congrats to you and DI on new place! Perhaps a title for your new tune "Cardboard Jungle" ? smile

I too love the violin/fiddle, but I also the way the bass line plays against and with the fiddle. This is a bit of a "strolling" piece.

Hi Misha ...

Thanks for the listen and nice comments. I intentionally left the fiddle dry as I wanted it to sound as though the three instrumentalists might be on their back porch.

And thanks for the well wishes on the house. We've been here ten days and still have many boxes to unpack. Again, many thanks. Take care and be safe ...

Hi Ez ...

Thanks for the listen and very nice words. You have no idea how many bass tracks I previewed before settling on this one. Since there are no drums and the acoustic 6-string doesn't vary, I needed a bass line that differed somewhat between the verses and the chorus and this one fit the bill. The difference is dramatic but just enough to differentiate the two parts.

Thanks again! Best to you. Please be safe ...

Alan, Congratulations on the new house. It must be an exciting time for you both. The instrumental is very well done and as mentioned in a previous comment you have a well developed knack for finding the perfect real tracks that have been hiding in plain sight from the rest of us. Your knowledge of chord progressions is always so natural yet at the same time full of little turns that twist the ear and keep it interesting. Good job on this one. Enjoy the new place, Tom

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
