Running BIAB 2021 build 804 on a Windows 10 laptop. I have a bluetooth speaker which I use to improve the sound. If I run BIAB with the speaker already connected it works fine.

If I run BIAB without the speaker connected it works fine with the internal speakers.

If I then connect the bluetooth speaker I get a message from BIAB saying the default audio device has changed and now I get no sound. If I try and exit BIAB it hangs and I have to kill it.

This didn't happen with the 2018 version I was using before.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Hi Andy, try selecting the bluetooth speaker as the audio Output, but not the audio Input. What often happens with bluetooth speakers when they're selected as an input device is they drop the sample rate to 8,000hz which Band-in-a-Box doesn't like (not to mention 8khz audio sounds awful).

The bluetooth speaker isn't selected for anything. Both the input and output drivers are set to the Microsoft sound mapper, which normally routes through the bluetooth speaker when it is connected.
Changing the input driver to the only other option, the realtek microphone, doesn't make any difference. If I turn the speaker off after it has been connected I get no sound from BIAB and it hangs when I shut it down.

Regards

With your bluetooth speaker connected, try this:

Right click on the Start menu and choose Settings, then click on System followed by Sound. Scroll to the bottom and choose Sound Control Panel.

Under the Playback tab, choose your default audio device (with the Green checkmark), then click on Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and choose 16-bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality) and click OK. If there is only the option of 24-bit 44100 Hz (Studio Quality), choose that instead. While we're here, uncheck the option to "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".

Next, do the same on the Recording tab with the device that has the Green checkbox. Click Properties, go to the Advanced tab, and choose 16-bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality) and click OK. If there is only the option of 24-bit 44100 Hz (Studio Quality), choose that instead. While we're here, uncheck the option to "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".

Once that is done, click OK on the Sound window, then go back to Band-in-a-Box and make sure it is working. If not, it could be necessary to do the above procedure on all your available sound devices.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately it hasn't made any difference. The speakers only have the 16-bit 44100Hz option, so I just turned off the exclusive control. If I start BIAB with the speaker turned on, it plays through the speaker. If I then turn of the speaker, BIAB is silent and hangs if I try to exit.

I did check all the playback devices and set them to 16-bit 44100Hz, but this didn't help either

Regards

Can you go to the Audio menu and choose Audio Drivers/Settings, and tell me what is selected for Audio Driver Type? Try switching it to MME if it isn't already.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
