This seems the best spot to post this. I am confused by terminology and functioning in the forum.
I cannot tell the difference between what the forum calls new "posts" and new "topics". Clicking on these lists usually takes me to the middle of the chain of replies. What is the BIAB forum definition of a "post" and a Topic"?
Also most boards I am familiar with have a button for marking all posts as having been "read" (past tense) so that the forum is cleared and next time you visit you can show all the new topics and responses that have been created since you last visited. Do we have something like that here?
Also is there a "like" or "thanks" button functionality for user's individual replies?

And now I see using your definitions you kindly provided, that clicking on latest "posts" or "topics" takes you to the last post of a topic, not the start of a new topic unless there is only one comment so far. This is very different behavior than most forums. I guess I will just have to get used to this. Curious stuff. (not a complaint; just head-scratching)
When you select a topic that has multiple posts the forum software automatically sends you to the first unread post. In other words if a topic has ten posts and you previously read five of them the next time you select the topic the forum software will direct you to post 6 of the topic.
The forum software is called +++ UBB +++ and has been around since 1997 so it's not new.

There's no need to mark a forum as "read". The forums here will show topics in bold if they are new since your last visit. If you leave the forums then come back tomorrow, anything that was previously bold will not be bold (unless it has new posts within that topic).
There are hundreds of thousands of posts on this forum - it would be overwhelming if they were all marked in bold to say "READ ME NOW"!

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
