Hello,

I feel some frustration with BIAB (currently BIAB 2021 for Windows).

On the one hand, I am very happy to be able to benefit from this software which is a precious help for working on music and for composing, especially with the real tracks which are of excellent quality. And for that, thank you, thank you, thank you!

On the other hand, I find the reliability and ergonomics to be quite deplorable.
There are a lot of bugs and support often asks us to reset the bar settings to get past a bug, which is very frustrating when you've spent time tweaking the settings. There are also many functions that refuse to run in certain contexts (actions on tracks in particular), without anyone knowing why (and which would require thinking like the developers)

Despite some efforts, the ergonomics remain poor and, more than a refresh, would require a complete overhaul, by defining the concepts that we want to expose to the user, the associated functions...
I tried to make some feedbacks in this direction, but mys interlocutors semmed not really aware of the problem and the path to follow. Half-heartedly, I was told that I had to learn to use the software, that it was worth it.

I am a computer scientist in medical informatics, and in this field it cannot be assumed that the user will adapt to the logic of the developer. And we rather make sure via ergonomics, that the user cannot be mistaken.
For me, this approach should be the one adopted for any software (and as a computer scientist, I find this approach very interesting).

Know that if I take the trouble to send this email, it's because I love BIAB and I wish with all my heart that this software continues to live and that it continues to hold out against aggressive competitors (UNISON MIDI CHORD PACK and others).
I therefore hope that you will not take me for a simple lesson, but rather as a few who are fighting to make BIAB progress.

Cordially

I'm pretty sure part of the issue here is that over the 30+ years of BiaB, most of the developers have changed, the platforms have changed, the development toolchain has changed and product get new features at every release and they try very hard to maintain backwards compatibility. Each of those factors cause their own management and maintenance issues, so it's hardly surprising that things don't always go as smoothly as they should.

That's the defense and understanding bit said.

+1 for the simplification (and rationalisation).

Biab modernization improvement = Development Nightmare

BBPlugin Standalone improvement = Joy

I think the future is in the development of the BBPlugin/Standalone
It can be released at the same time for Win & Mac (not 6 months apart)
Will then work on Linux using one of the VST Bridges
Will be able to generate up tracks quicker than Biab

I have shown with Biab Track Injector for REAPER how well this will work when implemented in the BBPlugin/Standalone.
It's a no brainer !

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
