I create .wav files every day using the menu commands as shown above with no resultant issues to the original .sgu file. so there is something else the OP is doing that is causing this. I cannot replicate his issue at all doing "normal" creation of wav files.
My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

Andrew:
I make an SGU called, let's say, Hey Jude. I render the tracks with the name Hey Jude. Not unreasonable imho and normal when rendering from a DAW, afaik. That destroys the information in the SGU.
I don't recall that happening before 2022/23, but maybe it started earlier - I'm an intermittent user.
I'm simply suggesting a warning that will happen.
Best - Andy

Yes I do agree with you there, the program should not allow you to render a file with the exact same filename as your MGU.

Exactly, there has been no recent change. I looked back at some older versions, and the render dialog was improved and simplified in 2017 - prior to that version it would just save your rendered file in the current folder without letting you choose a file name at all. There was a separate "choose" button that would let you rename the file as long as it was in the same folder. That button advised against choosing the same name as your song file in the tooltip.

For the record, I can reproduce this with BIAB Mac 2022.
If I export audio files to the same directory as the SGU, deleting the "_Render" component of the suggested base filename, everything in the mixer turns audio orange, track after track, as the export progresses.
(It's worth mentioning that the pre-export track parameters have not been destroyed and can be recovered by moving the WAVs and reloading the SGU.)
I realize this is behavior as designed but I can't say I find it appropriate. I'm just lucky I use subfolders for exports, as I always delete that "_Render" myself and am surprised I never got bit by this. It would seem more sensible to require a string like "performance_track" in files' names for their presence to have this confusing effect; as has been suggested, exporting heyjude.SGU as heyjude.WAV is really the obvious way to do that export.

FWIW, I remember Henry Clarke, in one of his videos, advising always to make a sub-folder for rendering into before doing any rendering, because BiaB would import same-name audio files in the main song folder onto tracks.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. Kawai MP6, Korg M50, Ui24R, Saffire Pro 40. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11; Win8.1: Scarletts BIAB2022 UltraPAK, Reaper, a bunch of stuff.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
