Hi all,
Here's a blues written by Carroll Kiphen and sung by Anthony Williams.
https://soundcloud.com/christian-devienne/guitar-joeKnew an old man down in Memphis
Bout twenty years ago
Who would sit out on his front porch
And open up his soul.
Had a nineteen fifties tele;
Was worn from years of use.
Used to entertain us youngsters
By playing us the blues.
ChorusHe could bend those strings and vocalize
The torment in his soul.
He could break your heart and make you cry.
Yes that was guitar Joe.
Yes that was guitar Joe.
Old Joe he loved his Mary Jane.
He said she loved him too,
Said, she was his inspiration
And why he played the blues.
Joe had served some time behind bars
And he played in quite a few.
Said he never made the big time
But he sure paid his dues.
We’d watch his fingers dance along.
That guitar was his stage.
He’d play as if he was possessed
As we sat there engaged.
He transfused the blues in my blood
Wrapped it around my soul.
I wrote this song to honor him.
I owe that much to Joe.
