Stan’s Idle Hour is a bar on the backwaters of a fishing village that attracts crowds

ranging from rowdy college students to bikers, condo dwellers, vacationing midwesterners, Florida crackers and

everyone in between. Stan’s is not where you go for a quiet relaxing afternoon.

It’s a festival. It is located in Goodland Fl. which is known as “the drinking village with a fishing problem.”

If you show up on a Sunday, you can’t miss it. It’s famous. It’s notorious.

It’s kinda like Key West used to be. The annual Mullet Festival attracts thousands.

Our band played there every other Sunday afternoon for 18 yrs.

This song is dedicated to one of the bartenders Jeff who was

part priest, part psychologist and part peacekeeper. Hope you enjoy it

Doin Life Behind Bars

Worked all these joints all these years

poured all the whiskey and all the beers

Get too drunk and I’ll take your keys

There’s not too much that I haven’t seen

Relationships get a little bit rough

When people get locked in a prison of love

There’s Honky tonk honeys at closing time

I may have been guilty once or twice

Happy hours Girls night out

Good time friends that’s what it’s all about

Helping people get through hard times

Serving up drinks and free advice

Standing guard all through the night

And breaking up every fight

Patching up all those broken hearts

Doin life behind bars

Doctors, lawyers lonely wives

Baseball bats guns and knives

Con men grifters big time users

Repeat offenders and two time losers

Shrimpers rednecks and CEO’s

Bikers hippies and country folk

Just when you think you’ve seen it all

A couple falls out of the bathroom stall

Happy hours Girls night out

Good time friends that’s what it’s all about

Helping people get through hard times

Serving up drinks and free advice

Standing guard all through the night

And breaking up every fight

Patching up all those broken hearts

Doin life behind bars

Hi Tom,

Man, you are on a roll lately!

Good one, love the groove and of course the performance is top notch.

Really enjoyed the backstory! You should write a memoir sometime about your life as a musician, I'm sure you have lots of great stories to tell. Would love hearing about your time playing with Charlie Daniels for example, I recall you telling me your band opened for his a few times I think?

Excellent!

Clever title, which is always a good basis for a country song.

The song begins with a bang: strong vocal, rocking background, excellent write - and never lets up.

Love it! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Great job on the song. Those clubs were a ton of fun back in the day.

Fun narrative and a cracking good pace.
Really enjoyable stuff.
As a nit I'd suggest attending to the "old man esses" that jump out a bit.
I'm certain few may notice and fewer care but they jumped out at me so are worth mentioning.
Excellent song.

Cheers

Tom,

It is a song that everyone can feel immediately the scenery as the lyrics are unfolding.
Sounds really fun.
If there is a place like this near my town, I would love to stop by.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Surely the best quality for a bartender. Man, I can see the party in every chord, Tom. It must have been a blast seeing you guys up there. Yep, what a great title for Jeff. You still play with a terrific band, Tom. Great write and pleasing production!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks Dave. We opened for Charlie 5 times and got to know him a bit. Once he played all blue’s except for Devil went down to Georgia & Sittin on a Barstool. You would have loved it. He was known for fiddle but was an underrated guitar slinger, Tom

Really good ol' honky tonk song sound. Captured the feel very well, as usual a great production and fantastic hook Tom.

Way to go Tom, great play on words, great story line and great arrangement.
And your guitar work and vocals are icing on the cake.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
