Hi Folks,

Here's my version of the late great Sonny Boy Williamson II song "Checking Up On My Baby" with a Latin Feel.

Vocals: Nigel Spiers

Lead Guitar: Jack Pearson
Rhythm Guitar: Pat Bergeson
Bass: Dow Tomlin
Drums: Wes Little

Excellent, Nigel. You had me with Sonny Boy, then turned it a bit Latin and I am all in. Great choices of instruments and such a good mix. Love that organ solo. You vocal is absolutely perfect for the Blues or anything close --which pretty much is everything. When it was over Soundcloud took me right into Chuggin'. Yeah, everything you do is top notch.

Enjoy whatever happens!

A definite Santana vibe...well he did make his mark with Latinesque blues.
I particularly enjoyed the organ solo. Which of the two played taht?
Solid mix and arrangement. Well done, as usual.

Cheers

Hi Nigel ...

Man, you never disappoint. And the light Latin treatment works perfectly.

I've used that lead guitar track a couple of times - it always does the trick when used properly, as you did. It's a great bluesy sound with an edge. And that organ solo is just so good!

You always bring some terrific music!

Alan

BRILLIANT. Such a good voice, such a good musician you really are. The guitar sections are out of this world, too. Brilliantly done. Bravo.

Nigel,

Cool Music.
As ray mentioned, definitely a Santana vibe (and a GOOD one!!)
Nice vocal. Sitting perfectly.
Nice use of the organ...
Bass sounds really good. However you processed that, I'd stick with it - perfect.

Definitely Santana, in the best possible way.
Vocals, guitar, organ noodling.... everything is well mixed and balanced and has room to shine.
Very well done!

Definitely a Santana vibe.

Great B3 and guitar leads.

You have the perfect voice for this genre.

As I love the blues and Santana you know I'm going love this one.

Whenever Nigel puts something up on SoundCloud you can bet it's top shelf and this song is exactly that.
Great vocals, great band, great mix.

Keep these coming man!

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Nice work excellent vocal and a tasty organ solo.
I see a lot of Santana comparisons but the guitar sounds more like the Allman Brothers to me.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your comments.

Yes Jack Pearson was a guitarist for The Allman Brothers. I think he may have replaced Dwayne Allman until he had to retire prematurely with a bad Tinnitus condition.

After Jack auditioned for the band Greg Allman commented "we either hire him or take lessons from him".

Enjoyed the organ solo too.

Vocal and mix are top notch.

Hi Nigel,

You make a lot of good songs all the time, but I'm far behind catching up all of your songs.
Let me tell you, at the end of Checking up, another song of you came to my ears; "Chuggin". Im sureI heard it before, but in line with Checking up, it sounded very strong.
I fantasized what it would be to see you live on stage! Must be great!
Great vocals, good band, strong mix! What more is there to say?
Oh I enjoyed it very much, even though it is not really my kind of music. But you made it very enjoyable for me to listen to it.

Nigel, those songs are ace!
Hans

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
