I am using BIAB to generate quick backing tracks for guitar improv practice. For instance I might write 4 bars C, 4 bars F, 4 bars G and loop this over and over. I want the first bass note of each new chord section of bars to play the root note of that chord so I can really hear the transition from one chord to the next. I notice that when I push the re-generate button, often times one of the chords will not have such a bass note and often times the bass note will be the root of the key which makes the transition hard to hear for me. I will then push and re-push the re-generate button until it re-generates so I can hear the root of each chord change played. Sometime it happens with a few clicks and sometimes it takes many.
Is there any way to make the re-generate process behave the way I want it to as stated above or is it just random trial after trial?
As to bass notes other people might know better but do slash chords force the bass note ...? C/C F/F etc. If ìt does and it plays what you want freeze all tracks and play - don't regenerate.
If you don't freeze regenerate changes what BIAB plays every time you ask it to. That's why regenerate is separate to play
Hey that seems to work. Interesting behavior though. As you write the slash chords, when you move onto the next chord, the written slash from the previous chord disappears from the chart, but it looks like BIAB remembers it. I'll keep testing, but looks like this may be a solution.
BIAB always tries to do what musicians do...........the people who hear me play often query wqhether I'm a musician. so maybe that's why i thought the slash chord route might work. it doesn't but the obvious solution is to use a midi bass or playable RT and edit the bass line to what you want. so do the musicians think that will work?
so i got the theory wrong but i hope the solution to the OP's problem is correct.
So if I understand correctly, the method of putting in slash chords with the root of the chord being designated WILL make the bass note played be the root of the chord, but it will not show up in the chart. So this IS a way to make the bass note be what I want, but it just won't be "notated" in the chart.
Yes, using the slash root will make the bass very likely to play the note you specify as the slash root. It's not 100% because the longer the chord is held, the more likely the bass may jump to a fifth or other note as a real player might.
If you really want the bass to land on one and only one note for any extended time, try using the Pedal Bass feature. Even that won't stay on the root 100% of the time; depending on the style, it's not musical; but it may play the root more than if you are using the slash bass. Experiment with the Pedal options.
The bass part may have notation, which you can see by the value 'N' in the Chart column of the RealTrack picker. If it does, this is a MIDI representation of the notes played by the RealTrack, so you WILL see the notation on the bass track. Just be aware it is for reading/educational purposes and is not used for sound, since it has no articulation, dynamics, etc.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
