Studio One Experts:
I have a section of a backing track that I am learning on the bass, so I have captured the section of interest in a loop.
Is there a way to command Studio One to produce a 1-2-3-4 pre-count click prior to bar 9 (the beginning of the loop) ?

1. I already know how to produce a pre-count at the very beginning of the song.
2. I also know how to produce a sustained click throughout the entire song.
3. And I know how to create a separate click track that runs for the entire song which I could volume automate to control when and where I want it to be active.
These are not my questions, although #3 is my plan B.

Since there will be many other sections of many other songs I will want to do this with, I'm hoping that there is a more straightforward way of doing this without volume automating both a click track and my backing track.

Is what I'm asking possible in the latest version of S1?

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Steve, I would use the split tool at the start and end of your loop, i.e. measures 9 and 20.
Alt drag the loop section to a blank track, this will copy your looped section.
Mute all other tracks, all but the one you just moved.
Extend the loop start point to measure 7, note these will be blank measures.
Set the metronome to click in play.
Press play.
Now on every time the measures loop you will have a two measure count-in.

I hope this helps and good luck.

{edit} I know no other way to achieve this so if someone does have a better solution I am all ears!

Also if you have a RealDrum file you can use the count-in:

Mario, I'm pretty sure your idea would work fine but I think my "Item 3/Plan B" is a tad simpler.
The Plan B works like a charm and when I want to practice another section of the backing track I just need to change the loop section and change when the click volume is on or off.

Maybe in a future revision Presonus will include this capability where all you have to do is right-click the beginning of the loop and the Click sub menu will pop up. I wasn't sure if somehow this was already available in a different way. All is good, problem solved, and S1 has yet to let me down. Thanks.

Musocity, I watched the video you provided and although I learned a thing or two from it, it deals with recording, which didn't help. Thanks anyway.

My bad. I thought you wanted a click track lead in without hearing anything else and that worked for every time you went through the loop.

Not at all, the bad was mine. I could have done better in describing the question.
I do want the click to lead-in at the beginning of the loop but I also need the backing track to also play so I can play along with it to learn that section.
Hopefully my 2nd screenshot will be clear if someone in the future needs to do the same thing.

Your second screenshot is the only way I know how to accomplish it.

FWIW - if you make that bass track mono, bring it into Melodyne, convert it to MIDI, import that MIDI track into Studio One, then view it in the staff view you can see the notes that the bass is playing. You can do all of that in your version of Studio One.

That's what I wanted to confirm, I wasn't sure if there was a more direct way of doing this, thanks again.

Yep, I'm sure this is a great way to see what's really going on. One day I'll add MIDI to my skill set . . . so many things to learn, so little time frown

If you want to view the notation just send me the loop and I will send back the notation.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
