I agree with the others - great song, lovely lyric and the piano was just right for the song.
Excellent as always.

Indeed, this guitar solo sounds like it was made for this song. I agree, there's always a good soloist to be found in BIAB. Sometimes it just needs a little regenerating and editing.

So you played the piano yourself? Wow, that sounds really good!
Excellent vocal as always.

Rob

Beautiful.

Wow.

One of the best ensemble of instruments I've heard. I always love the cello, and it works so well here. I agree about the guitar solo.

Emotive vocal.

A slow dancing song. Fade to black.

Very nice. You're doing a good job with the piano. I just recently started back playing the piano. Such a fun thing to do. It gives a totally different perspective from the guitar based stuff.

What piano samples/ synth are you using?

I agree that BB gives some really good leads. However I don't think that one in the song was a good fit. The tone was not as compatible with the feel of the song as it should have been. It was too "Carlos" for the song.

Other than that.... Really good job.

Excellent - would love to hear a remix.

Nigel - thanks for listening and for the mention of the song and piano.

I cannot imagine listening to a production like this and having my thoughts be "waiting for bass and drums".
I chose to had a very subtle bass that simply played root notes. Under the piano and so subtle that you might have to Listen to hear it. I stand by that choice as a producer. The piano handles the bass just fine. The piano also handles the percussive side. If you were going to add drums to this, I'd be curious and interested in what you think that might be and what that might add.

Double the volume on the solo? That would make it so loud you couldn't hear anything else.
As far as I am concerned, the guitar solo is at the perfect level (the same level as the vocal).
Perhaps some weirdness in your listening environment causes the solo to seem low to you.
And the tone is perfect. Rich, emotional, crying. Just what I wanted it to be.

I've been steadily producing songs for over a decade (and actually started 40 years ago). In all that time and all the songs that I have produced, I am more satisfied with this production than any I've ever done.
There will not be a re-mix.

Wow, really like this one, Floyd!

Very nice work on the piano, and love the vocal, very emotive. Also like the strings.

I agree the guitar solo works well. What I often find with the BIAB generated solos I hear on here, the solo can be very good but the transition out of the solo back to the verse can be weak, ending on a note that doesn't support the vocal. But, that's not the case here.

Beautiful song, very much enjoyed.

Great vocals.
It's a wonderful piece with a slow tempo, piano and vocals, and the classic ballad style.
Hand input is very effective for songs like this.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

All right, with that out of the way...

Lovely. Intimate and close. Piano is dead simple, just like you've been asking for on that other thread. Cello and guitar sound great - the distortion on the guitar adds a nice edge to an otherwise sweet arrangement of sounds. When the strings come in, it widens the sound wonderfully.

Vocal is fantastic, bringing life to the grief-filled lament.

Once again, a master class on showing how it's done! laugh

I did that same thing recently. I spent WAY too long soloing tracks and thinking "What?!?! is making that weird echo-y sound????"
Thanks for the nice comments...

Oh, it's bowing with the strings. What an extraordinary, beautiful song, Floyd. You have such a huge range of goodness.

Marty - thanks for the mention of the piano player smile
The Bass is actually simply the root note played on the beat. At a fairly low level. Just to give some support to the piano (who really handles the bass).
It's there-if-you-listen. That is what I was after.

Much appreciated, Dan. I've really only learned to play the piano this past year. That has helped with strings, of course. Still learning.

Really beautiful - lyrics, arrangement, singing, melody especially in the chorus. So light arrangement and gentle mix, I really appreciate this right after making a song filled with guitars and mixed to the max... that's why I was expecting the drum battery to fill the end like in a classic ballad, but I'm glad this was different - instruments perfectly balanced with the mood. And yes, that solo guitar has a heartbreking tone, perfect choice... And I enjoyed how you sang the title so emotionally.

Good decision, I like them a lot.
Your song is pretty pure with a sparse arrangement and a voice full of emotion.
Excellent choice.
This song would be the perfect encore for a live performance, just you and the piano and the light of 1000 lighters cell phones.

Beautiful!

“ i can barely breathe
   my heart's stopped, too”

That so well describes heartache, doesn’t it? You sing the lyric with so much feeling and nuance that we get the same feeling we do from being immersed in a great novel.

Your piano sounds great … stark yet fully supporting the sadness of the lyric.  The little right hand touches are perfecto and the helds are room filling. And the tone is great and it all has a lovely soundscape - it fills up the stereo spectrum in an excellent manner.

Those BiaB guys fit perfectly..

Nice cover art!

You set the piano on fire, sir, and exited the stage! 😊

Floyd:

Pretty tune. Deft hand on production as always—nice choices going more than less with lots of space. That really makes the guitar solo pop. I’m one of those who think the BIAB solos can be hit or miss. But they always seem to work best for me on these types of ballads, it does here.

Really like that piano work as well.

Good stuff!

I like everything about this. It moves from sparse to lushness with just a couple of added elements and then back to bare bones, bare emotions that bear the weight.

smile Thanks, ray....

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
