Patron Saints

I think I've got this close to where I want it. There are a couple vocal parts I want to clean up. The lyrics are dark. I am the foil to Marty's optimism. laugh Come to the dark side, young Skywalker.

Blood-stained glass
Flickering twilight
All things must pass
In the blistering night

Sifting through the catacombs
Drifting out from ancient tomes

Riding a one-eyed horse back into town
I am living on the upside of down
No signs and wonders left to be found
In this shallow hallowed ground

Echos ring hollow
In this vacant hall
I won’t follow
Your exalted fall

Sifting through the catacombs
Drifting out from ancient tomes

Riding a one-eyed horse back into town
I am living on the upside of down
No signs and wonders left to be found
In this shallow hallowed ground

Purgatory has left you damned
The hysteria of the seduction
Pray to your patron saints
Of chaos, greed, and destruction

Hi, Scott.

Moody piece - the instruments work well, as does your vocal. Lots of guitar! laugh

The lyric Drifting out from ancient tomes has me puzzled (how you do drift out of a book? Or are the books found in the catacombs?), but I tend to overthink things.

I enjoyed the listen!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Scott,

As David said, very moody! And I'll add mysterious. Strong vocal. I like the fuller sound starting at 2:34.

Also, I'm a fan of having the backing tracks full and a bit more forward in the mix than many folks are. Those acoustic guitars on R & L hold their own and keep the driver intense.

Dark & powerful.

Very nice work!!!

Alan

Scott, love the way you bust those high notes, and the vocals throughout. The backing track sounds really cool, too, as does the slithery minor progression. Those lyrics over the image of the burning city ARE dark, but that's part of life, and something to sing about too. Great job!

Scott, maybe you’ll get a flashlight for Christmas to help lighten the darkness. Seriously, I have always liked sad songs. It’s probably a good idea to explore all the emotions in our writing. You did a good job on the vocals and the lyrics. Your tracks all work well and the production sounds really good. I did enjoy my listen, Tom

Oh, Scott, you are the patron saint of what's so good about the darkside. Even a one-eyed horse would follow your lead. I love this line "I am living on the upside of down"

The Wreckig Crews you hire are as good as any in history. What a brilliant Christmas song of our times.

Enjoy whatever happens!

The darkest song I've heard from you so far, indeed.
Interesting leap from the low vocal to the high vocal. Your voice can do it all, easily.

Thank, Dave. I was thinking about ideas, histories, prophecies, imagery, etc. that drift out of books---metaphorically.

It's nice to hear from you, Alan. Yes, I think the harmony on the chorus should be boosted a little, too.

Dark narrative and dark tonality in your excellent vocals.
The band is ace.
Love the high notes too.

Scott,

Love this song and the instruments choices. I think this is one incredible vocal - perfect for the mood of the song.

A great dark and moody piece.

I love dark cool
This is a pretty cool song, I really enjoyed listening to it.
The left acoustic guitar makes the song a bit too busy and takes my attention away from the best part (your vocals).
I think I would try something less busy, probably a clean electric guitar that holds chords.
That's the best thing about BIAB, you can just try out ideas.
But as it is now, it's already very good, so don't worry too much about it.

Hi Scott,

This is quite an amazing song.
Your powerfully evocative imagery resonates with world happenings rights now.
The production is outstanding and your singing sits perfectly from both a mixing perspective and a performance perspective.

Honestly, this is one of the best comments on the failings of Capitalism that I've heard in recent years.

Thanks for sharing.

Not enough dark rock songs here, I'm really glad you fill that void.
Dark story, no hope: "Pray to your patron saints/Of chaos, greed, and destruction"
Intriguing chord progression and the acoustic picking brings it nicely forward. Good classic sounding chorus.
Very good use of guitars, really powerful ones starting before purgatory.
You have the best rock voice on this forum, I enjoy it thoroughly, very nice rise from low to high.

Janne

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
