All Of Me Hi Folks, Here is my version of the Jazzy Blues Standard "All of Me" in a Western Swing style featuring some of the superb Band In A Box Western Swing Soloists; Piano - John Jarvis, Fiddle - Andy Leftwich and Pedal Steel - Paul Franklin. It was written by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons in 1931 and has since been recorded over 2000 times. Some of my favourite interpretations are by Louis Armstrong; Count Basie; Ella Fitzgerald; Dinah Washington; Sarah Vaughan; Duke Ellington, Willie Nelson and Django Reinhardt. Vocals & arrangement: Nigel Spiers Bass: 3407 Rhythm Guitar: 558 Rhythm Piano: 3507 Piano Soloist: 1866 Pedal Steel Rhythm: 1134 Pedal Steel Soloist: 1672 Drums: JazzBrushes#1 Fiddle Soloist: 1872

Hi Nigel ...
This is one of our all-time favorite standards. And your swinging version is top shelf. The BIAB tracks you selected are perfect. The song just keeps rolling down the road as smoothly as warm butter.
The band and - to some degree, your vocal - are reminiscent of Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel. And, in my book, that's a real good thing. But I am assuming you're 6'8" (2.03 in metres) tall, as is Ray Benson!
But this song stands tall and proud. Nicely done.
Wishing you the best.
Alan

Hi, Nigel. I don't associate this song with a country sound, but it fits nicely. As do your relaxed vocals. I enjoyed listening!

Hi Nigel,
Oh yes, I know that song. I was visiting the North Sea Festival in The Hague with my father. He was a real fanatic fan of Jazz music. To tell you the truth, I wasn't. I only loved the Dutch Swing College Band (do you know that band?) and Lous Armstrong. They also played in/on Carnegie Hall in New York. We saw Oscar Peterson and Duke Ellington playing there live. That was very impressing.
Your cover of All of me'' is very good. It could have sounded more brassy, but it is a good cover. Your band played very well too! So, a big hand from me because of that, Nigel. Go ahead with those covers (if allowed)
Hans

Hi Alan,
Thanks for your comments.
Yes I'm also a fan of "Asleep At The Wheel" even though I'm only 6'1".
Best Regards Nigel

The fiddle gives it a sense of Grappelli playing with the swing kings. It's a fine song and this interpretation is really nice.

This is a lot of fun. More than a little Quintette du Hot Club de France sound with that fiddle. Excellent vocals with all the cool accents and inflections for this type song. Nice subtle twist in the arrangement at the end, too. Well done!

The fiddle gives it a sense of Grappelli playing with the swing kings. ................. That was my first impression also. Nigel, this is an excellent version of one of my favorites that I have played many times. I have heard/played it swing before but never country swing, great job on that. This is top shelf all the way.
I just posted a selfie and all of the responses were get well soon!

Hi Hans,
Thanks for your comments.
Yes I am also a big fan of the Dutch Swing College Band - they always bring something new to the Trad Jazz classics.

This really SWINGS! - Love the Western Swing approach, and vocal is great, reminds me a bit of Leon Redbone.

Nigel,
I've only heard the Frank Sinatra and Joan Gilberto versions of "All OF ME," so I was a little surprised by your arrangement. However, considering the year in which the song was created, I think it's a perfect arrangement. Your vocals also express the atmosphere of that era very well. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.

That’s a cool version, Nigel, and we can hear your favorite’s influences in there.
As others mentioned the fiddle really gives it a good Django vibe.
These really are oldies but goodies, aren’t they?! 😊

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
