Beyond The Ozone - Into The No Parking Zone

This is one I originally posted 6 or 7 years ago. It's all I have until I finish a couple of newer ones I don't yet have the time to finish. Hope you don't mind me reposting for just a while.

This is all BIAB - nothing I've added from any other source. I just had way too much fun playing around with the indigenous BIAB plug-ins! I think this was originally recorded with BIAB 2017 and whatever extras that version had.

There's way too much echo delay, flange, phase shifting, and EQ-ing. But, in my opinion, way too much was just the perfect amount. I used a fairly long delay with a slow decay rate. It's not a genre I would ever have been able to play in real life, so I had no choice but to go BIAB all the way. But I think it was a good choice!

I did some significant tweaking in Audacity. I brought the bass volume up a little bit, as I did the bongos. I added a small amount of mid-EQ to the bass, but not much - I attempted to get rid of some of the "mush" without losing the depth/bottom. I also added some high-mid EQ to the primary drum kit. I wanted to bring up the impact of the toms and snare without overdoing the ride cymbal. The song has a bit more "pop" to it than the original did. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, let me know.

Alan, ha! You had me at "bongos". Fun song! Cool instruments, progression and modulation. The mix sounds really nice to me, too. Like the ambient sound that opens the track, but not sure what it is.

I like to use some of these more eclectic RealStyles as they can force me out of my comfort zone. You've done a great job with this one. The lead guitarist even does a credible job on a long solo, which isn't always the case.

Love it!

Alan,

This is awesome. Not only is it trippy, but it's got an infectious groove that never lets up.

Outstanding production - you completely nailed the vibe.

Dare everything ! After the Asian period we are in the psychedelic. I really like the sound of the lead guitar. You are right with band in a box we can create endless musical atmospheres. Thank you for this bath of musical youth. I was 16 again.

Actually I'm grateful for your reposts, Alan, because I wasn't here for the original. The is too much --way too much --just perfect. WOW, that's all BiaB. What a crazy band. Yep, it's always good to have the bass out front, and bring the bongos with it. Keep 'em coming!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

I actually remember this one from back in the day. Quite a ride!

No problem from me for reposting an older tune seeing as I just did that with one of mine wink

I'm with Marty, keep those reposts coming! I wasn't around to hear the first one ever, but sure am glad I heard this one. I've not heard one like this from you before, but this was a fun one. It got me from the get-go and never let go!

Alan,

Well, music is a subjective thing as they say . . . it’s incredibly well put together, and I would have no clue where to begin in doing something like this, so kudos to your great mixing and arranging talent . . . but it’s a bit too busy for me (though that lead solo is pretty sweet for the most part) . . . and that’s simply a matter of preference.

Hi, Alan.

What a fun song - cool lead guitar and plenty of bongos.

I agree with you - just the right amount of FX.

Very cool! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Ron,

That opening and ending is one of the BIAB synth loops - not sure which one, it was a last minute decision. I'm a big fan of key modulations. They seem to breathe a new life to the song.

Glad you liked it! Thanks for the listen and kind words.

BI Bob,

Yep, it's definitely trippy! Mixing it was the hardest part for me. It's not a genre I would listen to. But it was a submission for a documentary of the 1960s. It made the final 5 but was ultimately not selected.

Thanks for the nice comments!

Try to stay warm - I hear it's pretty cold up there!

Bon Soir, Laurent!

Songs are like life - they keep changing and drag us along whether we like it or not. I was 216 almost 61 years ago. Yikes - I'm getting old! Thank you very much for the encouraging support.

Alan,

Exciting!
It is reminiscent of the performances of guitar instrumental groups from the 1960s.
But it's much harder than them.
The great thing about you is that you can create exactly any style of guitar sound.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Soap bubbles and beach balls in the air.
Dancing and finger cymbals.
And other things smile

Bud's been there. Janice being 12 years younger missed it all.

Well done. The new mix is definitely snappy and the percussion pops.
Cool guitar too.

Far out Al!

Hi David,

Yep - trippy. Just what I had in mind. I now know I got at least one thing finished the way I had intended!

Keep in mind, the original song style isn't this warped - it's a little more traditional. But, with BIAB, you can do almost anything music-wise. (Although there is one style I've not been able to find after many hours of searching- and it's very frustrating because it's a style I love playing and listening to.

Here's a link to the style (I really like this guitarist - I've been listening to her for a couple of years):

Thanks for the listen and comments! And happy New Year to you and yours, too.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
