There is another thread about either keeping or deleting the old picker. So I thought it would be interesting to see if users are using the old picker, the new multipicker or both. So what do you use?

I am only using the multipicker.

Still using the old style and realtracks picker, mostly out of habit. Although I'd intentionally use the old pickers more if they hadn't changed to look like the multipicker.
Still use alt/F8 for regeneration.
Still use the "select best" picker for trying other realtracks.

I've been too sick to use either way enough times to voice an informed opinion.

Inertia is strong, however, and for the one project I had to do on a deadline, I used the old pickers because I needed to get work done immediately. I have no doubt I will switch as soon as I can put in the time to work with the new picker. During testing, I was impressed. I'm not against change; when the new GUI was introduced in 2018, I switched immediately and never looked back.

In a response to Misha, I did say that there could be others like me who want to finish a project on a deadline who might not use the new multipicker just yet, and I gave that as a reason to leave the old pickers a bit longer.

Create a custom toolbar with all the new capabilities buttons and never look back.
This way you can avoid all the redundancy.

Yes! This is the first thing I did in 2018, and again in 2024 by adding the Multipicker there.

Stopped using all others as soon as MTP came out, with exception of main style picker for rebuilding.

It seems, overall, it was received very well by users with very minor issues sited. In my view MTP Library was a big accomplishment, as you have most of PGM content all in one place, and non modal workflow is amazing.

P.S. Matt, obviously by starting other thread, I didn't have expectancy for obsolete pickers to be removed right away, but hopefully people will chip in with constructive feedback and with next cycle they can be put to rest.

I just admit that I click in one of the old pickers from time to time (pure inertia), but I mainly use the new MTP window. It has been asked by many people over the years and, to me, is one of the best new features in many years: finding the tracks you're looking for is simply much easier now.

Old pickers are not really necessary anymore.

I was using CSVQF Biab Multi Picker Injector but now I can do that in Biab with a non jail window and a Partial Regen.
It's like a band-aid you just got to rip it off quickly.

Thanks! Then my apologies; I misunderstood the timeline you were requesting.

I remember the release of the new Biab on December 5 and the request to delete the old selectors dated the 6. I was a little shocked, we can say without exaggeration that Rusty doesn't waste time ;-) But in fact, he was getting ahead of next December 5th.

Unless there is some kind of serious issue, things rarely get changed overnight. That had been my observation / experience.

If it was up to me I would remove pickers on last patch of this year, somewhere in October as a grand finale of 2024. Those who dont want more than half of dozen of obsolete jailed pickers - will update, those who can't live without them, will still have 2024 version with all the bugs addressed before the point of no return.

There is still some work to do before discarding the original pickers.

As an example, changing the font size in the Styles tab of the Multi-picker actually changes the font size in the original Styles picker.

That's really as it should be. Just about any change, including bug/issue fixes, carries a risk of breaking something else. If it isn't a serious issue, then more time testing and verifying is sensible, rather than just pushing out the change.

Exactly. A serious amount of regression testing, covering 30+ years of code design would be required before any 'all clear' could be given.

MTP is all I use. I also created a custom tab with my choices and leave it open. I do however find the random right click picker options slightly annoying and close them and go to the MTP.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
