Hi Alexander

A Clapton reference - I'll take that and appreciate it at any time. Thank you very much!

Nice relaxing song, and I always love bodhrans in a song.
Well done.
The bass could have a bit more high-pass, it is a bit boomy in some places.

Hey B.D.

"Hollow Soul" is a euphemistic colloquialism (euphemistische Umgangssprache - auf Deutsch) in parts of the US. It means that due to some action or event, a person is left feeling empty inside - extreme sadness, loneliness, overwhelming emotional pain.

All that said, I'm delighted you enjoyed the song. And yeah, bodhrans are pretty cool!

Thanks again for listening and commenting. I appreciate it.

Hi Brad,

Thank you so very much! I appreciate all that! The reso ended up being a pretty easy choice. The Brad Paisley and Alison Krause song "Whiskey Lullaby" had a lot of influence on the development of this one.

Wishing you the very best,

Alan

Very mellow. Listening to the music and also noting the attached SoundCloud photo had me recalling a time in my late teens when I got stuck in a shower when the door jammed. It's how I felt when I only had cold water and a soggy spliff. Very melancholy. laugh

Hello Wao,

Melancholy was the intention. Thank you for making that comment. Well, I've never had a shower event as frustrating as yours! Hope you didn't wrinkle up to badly! Might be the cleanest you've ever been when you eventually exited the shower!

Thanks for the listen and nice comments.

Alan, This is a beautiful instrumental. Your work with these real tracks is nothing short of amazing. Your combinations of instruments always seems the perfect fit. You wouldn't be able to do this without years of extensive musical knowledge. Very well done and extremely pleasant to the ears, Tom

Hi Tom,

That's so very kind of you to say. I'm very happy you liked the song. I hope this doesn't sound too self-serving, but I can pretty much hear the instrumental combinations in my head before I ever put them into use. It's the same with chords and chord progressions. I pretty much know what the chords sound like before I even play them (in combination with other iterations of the song project). I can't really explain it beyond that. I know no music theory whatsoever, cannot read nor write notation, etc.

I think it might be attributed to 50+ years of playing in bands plus a minimum of one hour of practice almost every day. Also, I like so many genres of music. I do a little trad Country, Modern Country, Smooth Jazz, and Smooth RnB every practice session. There are atypical nuances that can be used (sometimes slightly altered) from one genre to the next that might not be a common practice among traditional composers. I put this song together in less than four hours from first thought to what you hear. Okay, done rambling. In summation, I guess I just have a gift for hearing things that usually work musically.

Again, thank you very much for the wonderful comments!

Best to you.

Alan

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
