Hi All, Here's another new one. This is called Tannersville. She said she’s not unhappy Just really likes the sad songs It helps her think about things All things both right and wrong He says she’s always in his head Like Patti Smith’s Book Of Days He thinks about her way too much And it leaves him in a haze And they park down off the rail trail And he moves away the garbage And he spreads out his old jacket And the wind comes down the mountain He says baby I'm not joking I'd be gone if I didn't meet you There's a few things here in Tannersville I find it hard to go back to She grew up on the mountain She's never really been anywhere But the tourists come from far away And they end up being everywhere And they park down off the rail trail And he moves away the garbage And he spreads out his old jacket And the wind comes down the mountain She still loves to go out dancing She’s got a touch of silver gray Her first husband worked the railroad And she’s trying to find her way The sun was always a good sign And that seemed like a reason To spend some time in Kaaterskill Falls Where they welcomed the new season And they park down off the rail trail And he moves away the garbage And he spreads out his old jacket And the wind comes down the mountain And they park down off the rail trail And he moves away the garbage And he spreads out his old jacket BIAB Tracks: 2474: Bass, Acoustic, Held Ev 085 0364: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Ev 065 0841: Piano, Electric, HeldChords Ev 060 Other: Vocal recorded with a Placid Audio Copperphone Mic Waves Harmony Mix / Master via Ozone 11 with various vintage settings Izotope Vinyl setting As always - thanks for listening! Bob, wow, gorgeous song! Very evocative, and your fabulous vocals and sparse arrangement serve the song perfectly. Like where you placed the harmony lines on the chorus but could just barely hear them. Another great one...you keep raising your own bar. Not easy to do...

Those lyrics that start the story are so captivating --grabs me much more than, "They call me Ishmael." I spent so much time in and around Tannersville --(born in East Burg). Jammed with G(eorge) Smith when he was 17.
You consistently write what I'd call my favorite cut on the album. Lyrics are always far better than anything else out there, and your vocal delivery matches them like no one else can. Terrific and inspiring.

At first I thought of Bob Dylan. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the Folk singer style, it's not my culture. But it's really good and the emotion comes through. The intro and the guitar are superb, the broken voice goes very well with it. Bravo Superb song and interpretation. Laurent

Hi Bob. I like how in the USA a place name can be used in a meaningful way. It doesn't often work with UK place names. I loved your track and lyric.
Two lines bothered me though: "Her first husband worked the railroad And she’s trying to find her way". If you'd written "Her husband died working the railroad", I think the lines would make more sense. Just my opinion and I hope you don't mind me mentioning it.

The new? microphone adds a low fi vintage quality to your excellent vocal. The stripped down unplugged band is perfect for your poetic storyboard lyric. Americana at it's best, Tom

This is great storytelling, and the sparse instrumentation does exactly what it's supposed to: It never gets in the way of your vocals. I really LOVE how you switch between sung and spoken words at times. Works perfectly!

Bob, Another very fine offering from a super talented folk/rock singer songwriter! You did a wonderful job on the vocals here and your lyrical content is up there with your usual very high standards! Take care, TB

Marty,
Thanks so much - I always appreciate your kind reviews. BTW, this is Tannersville, NY, but I know Tannersville, PA very well. I've spent a lot of time there over the years.
Thank you again.

Hi, Bob. There's the old saying about writing what you know, and if seems you really know New York. I like the understated tone you use here - small things and details - that fits nicely with the simple arrangement. Nice work!

Bob, you are one fantastic story teller. I got a Bob Dylan vibe on this one and I mean that as a huge compliment. Outstanding vocal and lyrics, backed by the perfect band, and mixed to perfection. This is your best to date IMHO.

Yes, new mic. It's called a Copperphone. It's made especially for a LoFi sound. Not for every recording, but useful when you need a very vintage sound.

This song pleased me very much. But the others did too! The guitar sounds wonderful, and your voice is very good. Wonderfully melancholic song, you can just see how the story unfolds. Well done!

Beautiful, poetic song, Bob. I feel there's a movie in there.. Very real.

More poetry set to music by Mr. Robert Dean. Using litotes in your opening line is a good way to set the tone for her understated life. Fine work!

Hi Bob,
I thought I'd left a comment when I listened yesterday - guess not! Damn - this getting old thing had a lot of potholes in its road!
Sweet song! You give Americana music a great face - and sound. Your songs are so good and your delivery to wonderful, the sparse backing tracks you typically use are all that's needed. No need to cover up your lyrics and vocals with unnecessary stuff that might get in the way.
You are very talented, my friend ...

Another in the series of fine tales of cartographic missives. The voice REALLY sits in the place & time ...name dropping Ms. Smith is always a nice thing too.

Janice loved it from the very first line and said the first verse could be a beautiful song all on its own. Your vocal sounds wonderful, the melody is beautiful and the sparse band is perfect.
There is SO much goodness packed into those three minutes.
A showcase in the forum showcase of what “singer-songwriter” is all about.
Spectacular!

Good example of timeless folk singer-songwriter music. Bit sad, yet authentic sounding story, I can almost feel "the wind comes down the mountain". I really enjoy your vocals, great work, surely not easy to combine singing and speaking in such a compelling way.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
