I recently upgraded to 2024 usb version from 2022. All was going well. I still had about 20 songs on the older version but when I tried to open it I got a system error message. ( the code execution cannot proceed because Data/libx64/dllelastiquePro3.dllwas not found. Reinstallingthe program may fix this problem.) I was never installed as it is a usb hd...so, have I just lost these songs? Thanks
Even if you plan to run BIAB from the USB drive, the program needs to be installed as there are some files that need to be put on your computer so that BIAB can run properly.
If you look on the USB drive, you will find a file called "ReadMeFirst.RTF". This is a document file that explains about the installation. When you run Setup.exe, you will need to choose the option that sets your computer up to run BIAB from the USB drive (I think this is Option 1).

Hi,
We can help you figure it out... Can you define what you mean by "it" - you are trying to open Band-in-a-Box, but are you trying to launch version 2022 or 2024, and where are you trying to open it from (e.g. your computer's C: drive, the external drive)? Your screenshot is not the Band-in-a-Box hard drive, so what is it? You could right-click on the file that you are double-clicking on and select Properties, take a screenshot of the properties dialog.
You have the Band-in-a-Box 2024 UltraPAK hard drive, and you can run Band-in-a-Box 2024 from it fine, however you don't know how to access / where to find songs that you had created in your previous 2022 version. So you are trying to run your 2022 version to find out where you have the songs saved.
thats pretty much right. As i've mainly used it as a writing tool, I had left many 'skeleton" or sketches of songs on the old version. Even if there were a way I could copy the data from the old to the new. Not sure any of that makes sense.
One thing you can do is copy the Preferences folder (bb/Preferences) from your 2022 bb folder to your 2024 bb folder. (replace the existing files, if present). This would probably help you a lot. However, we need to find your 2022 folder; the folder from which you are trying to run Band-in-a-Box 2022 (as you described in your first post) does not seem to be it because it is missing the Band-in-a-Box files.
I think you have, or had, the Band-in-a-Box 2022 UltraPAK hard drive. Were you running Band-in-a-Box 2022 from that, or did you have it on your computer's internal hard drive?

We're still missing part of the puzzle. When did you find that you were unable to open Band-in-a-Box 2022? Because this wouldn't have suddenly happened out of nowhere. Did you try to copy or move some files around?
Either way, if you have your Preferences folder there, you can copy it to your 2024 drive.
I'm guessing that you have your songs saved on that 2022 drive as well. Once you run Band-in-a-Box 2024 (after having copied over your Preferences folder), take a look in the File menu - at the bottom there are a list of recently opened files. This might tell you where your songs are.
1. Open "This PC" in Windows Explorer, so that you can see all the devices and drives attached to your computer. See screenshot attached. 2. Plug in your Band-in-a-Box 2022 USB hard drive. I would suggest renaming it from "UltraPAK" to "UltraPAK 2022" so that you can distinguish it. To do this, click on it and press F2, and then type the new name. 3. Double-click on UltraPAK 2022 to open it and then double-click on the bb folder. 4. Now you are in the bb folder. Find the Preferences folder, which is a subfolder in the bb folder. 5. Single click on the Preferences folder and press Ctrl+C to copy. Navigate back to This PC. 6. Plug in your Band-in-a-Box 2024 USB hard drive into another USB port. It should be called "UltraPAK" and you should see it appear in This PC. 7. Double-click on it (UltraPAK), and open the bb folder. 8. Press Ctrl+V (Paste). Answer Yes to replace/merge the existing folder.
If you only have one free USB port, then you can copy the folder to your desktop first, and then switch hard drives, and copy it from your desktop.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
