When The Future Froze This a therapeutic song, written because yet again winter has felt like something that never ends - making music has moved my thoughts elsewhere for a moment... and also it's a way of showing my middle finger to winter I have written winter songs before, this time I wanted to avoid word "waiting", that's why there is even less hope in the story - I also found a nice word "juggernaut" to refer to Mad Max Winter mood... Well, I hope you find something positive in the story and don't get buried under my avalanche of harsh mindscapes Vocals are by Synthesizer V JUN this time, has fitting dark tonality and closer to my voice hopefully also in this case I'm especially happy that I found that solo guitar RT, I knew that it had to be a fast soloist played very slow to get the "dragging" sound I wanted and this metal one was a perfect match. Based on the style _MOON.STY RealDrums: ModernCountryRootsy16th RealTracks: #3455 Electric Bass #4502 Electric Piano #2878 Electric Guitar Rhythm Americana #3717 Acoustic Guitar Baritone Rhythm #3693 Lap Steel Background #4545 Electric Guitar Soloist Metal80sPopFast8ths #4523 Electric Guitar Baritone Rhythm BroCountryPop16PowerDist #4580 Electric Guitar Rhythm PopGlowHeldPlusGrit #3267 Cello #4573 Dizi Flute #2334 String Quartet Vocals: Synthesizer V JUN Mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab (Ozone 11, Nectar 4, Neoverb) Lyrics: Blooming rye in the spring morning haze gentle whispers, a lover's heartfelt gaze great expectations cooled and fell as snow hearts were ploughing frost in the biting blow. Winter is too long summer is too brief I harvest only weeds every snowflake is a thief. The shutters of hope now closed winter withered the primrose time came to a halt the future froze. The passing peace of the isle's balmy breeze the fragile balance of weather, plants and bees greed froze the teardrops of the architect eons couldn't heal what the man had wrecked. Winter is too long summer is too brief I harvest only weeds every snowflake is a thief. The shutters of hope now closed fallout faded the primrose time came to a halt the future froze. The avalanche continues buries my thoughts alone to witness the last straw rolled over by a juggernaut. --------------------------- Janne

Jane, great job. I too like the e-guitar but also the flute. And synthetic vocals steadily get better and better.

Janne,
Strong & powerful. It siounds like a complex mix, but you've done a perfect job of putting everything its p[lace and blending them. Excellent work on that!
It is a foreboding story, yet a real nice listen. Your ability with the synth voices is terrific!
You create great music! I always like your music.

Take care.

Janne, well, I can see why Finland has topped the World Happiness Report for the last six years. Ha! Just kidding. Know it's complicated...
This is a very evocative tune, and you've captured that winter mood perfectly. From the opening note (is that the flute?) you set the musical tone very convincingly. JUN even sounds a little chilly, though that may be me projecting how the rest of the song makes me feel.
It might be the full chest voices and strong vibratos, but synth vocalists often remind me of the vocal style used in stage musicals. So I couldn't help but picture JUN standing center stage in a bluish spotlight, plastic "snow" blowing through the beam. Like I said, I found this very evocative.
A+ for me!

Hi Janne, Over here spring has already started The Dizy flute works really well in the song's intro. Looks like at 0.37 V JUN has a little error... The chorus of the song really stands out with the cool harmony vocal. Great Rock solo at the end. And darn! Are those synth voices getting better all the time. Rob and Anne-Marie

Great intro, that flute sounds amazing! The dreary, seemingly endless winter just lends itself to these kinds of darker lyrics! But that's ok because so many can relate! The synth vocals are really good as is the guitar solo stuff later in the song! Very fine work!
Thanks, TB

A very poetic write! You got an appropriately mournful performance from Jun. I could feel him plodding through the endless snow.

Without Winter Spring would have little impact. Yes, this song has a dirge like feel drudging through the climatic transisition, but it is one most of us can get behind you and trudge with our heads down and still be happy. Man, I can't wait for your Spring song, Janne. This one is so well produced, and, man, no matter what words you use, the lyrics are always top-shelf poetry.

Alan Thanks Alan for your very heartwarming comment Even though there were 5 guitar RTs listed, I used only 1-3 of them at the same time. Yes, nothing wrong with having 2% Finn DNA, it certainly helps you to understand my strange music But I just read that we share 60% of DNA with fish and 50% of DNA with bananas, what should I think of that... maybe we still have genes to grow fins or a skin to peel Janne

Hi Janne,
At my first listen I thought it was your own voice, but then I read it it was that synth vocal. A good song about that nasty winter. I read RnAM told you here it is spring. Well... I know where they live and I can tell you, there is no spring at all. Sometimes a watery sun,, but spring...?
Back to your song: a lot of nice instruents you useed and especially the flute is wonderful. It felt as if I was in the woods, walking through that snow, but still enjoying myself. That's because I had my headphones with your song. Gave me a peacefull feeling, eventhough the weather is bad... So, very well done. And I must not forget to mention the bg-vocals. They are very good!

Janne,
I can deeply feel the harshness of winter in Finland in this tune. The slightly folk-like minor melody is perfect for these lyrics. The selection of Synth V is also very appropriate. Your skill in using Synth V is really great. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.

Thanks Marty for your very kind words, especially concerning the lyrics Well, it seems that Spring will be very short this year and I won't have enough time to get inspired by its presence, the forecast tells it's going to snow 10cm tonight just when the old snow had been slightly been melted... But because Winter is still here, it has inspired me to start writing another song, it is going to be called The Heat Is Not On Janne

The lyric is excellent and thoughtful, Janne. J
anice and her sister recently discussed the impact of increased development in the North Carolina mountain community where her sister lives. Also, like you, her sister is more than ready for springtime to appear!
Jun does sound remarkably like you and delivers the mournful feel very well. Like others we thought the flute was a great choice and that solo guitar really did the job.
Now we feel almost guilty for enjoying our new spring blooms here.

Yes, that synth vocal does sound very similar to your voice, both in tone and phrasing.
Loved the flute! Guitar is great also, nice fit.

Hans Thanks Hans for your nice review, always pleasure to read your interesting thoughts Glad to hear that my song gave you a peaceful feeling, although it was so dark and without hope. It is interesting that winter is quite different in different countries, you probably don't have an idea how cold and snowy it can be here... and based on the news there is a chaos in traffic after a tiny snowfall in southern countries (here it is just normal routine). Unfortunately, this climate change has caused one thing I really hate, walking paths are icy through whole winter, because of continuous melting and freezing. In my childhood, there was just snow... Thanks Elliot for your heartwarming comment I didn't have a Broadway musical in my mind, but I like the concept, maybe I should write one now that several Synth V vocalists sound quite theatrical. I can deeply feel the harshness of winter in Finland in this tune. The slightly folk-like minor melody is perfect for these lyrics. The selection of Synth V is also very appropriate. Your skill in using Synth V is really great. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
Shigeki Adachi Thanks Shigeki Adachi for your kind and warm comment I hope the harshness of winter in my song didn't freeze you in any way Janne

Very lovely song Janne! Love the flute sounds, but the melody especially in the chorus is the real star here. The transition to the chorus is really Pink Floyd like! Great song! TB Thanks Torrey for another lovely comment Pink Floyd, I take that as a huge compliment Janne

Effective imagery in the opening lyric. I love that flute. It adds a pleasing dimension to the song. And what your did with that soloist track is perfect! So awesome. The synth voice sounds real. Thanks for your nice review I tried to have a strong contrast between the lines in the beginning and ending of the verses, and it seems that I succeeded in that. And thanks to PG Music for that flute, great to have it for creation of another dimension. Janne

Good stuff Janne. Cool how you worked the flute and the guitar in together. the guitar slide at the end was a great touch. I don't think anybody's mentioned it yet, but I thought it was a really cool title too.

The lyric is excellent and thoughtful, Janne.
Janice and her sister recently discussed the impact of increased development in the North Carolina mountain community where her sister lives. Also, like you, her sister is more than ready for springtime to appear!
Jun does sound remarkably like you and delivers the mournful feel very well. Like others we thought the flute was a great choice and that solo guitar really did the job.
Now we feel almost guilty for enjoying our new spring blooms here.
J&B Thanks Janice and Bud for your nice comment Don't feel guilty, just enjoy taking care of your garden It has been really warm spring here today, but it seems that more reason for mourning is coming in the form of big snowfall and freezing days... Janne

Hi Janne,
Sorry to be so late to the party.
Yes, that synth vocal does sound very similar to your voice, both in tone and phrasing.
Loved the flute! Guitar is great also, nice fit.
Good song! Thanks Dave, it's never too late for your positive feedback Janne

Brad Thanks Brad for your positive feedback Glad you like the flute & guitar together, they have a little story: the flute is the primrose and the guitar is the juggernaut crushing it, when I was a child and had fever, I had that kind of nightmare quite often, difficult to explain it in words, but the feeling ended up in the song. Janne

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
