I can use WAS on my Win7 computer as long as I use the onboard sound card; if I try to use the USB external M-Audio FastTrack Pro, it doesn't work, and I have to use ASIO instead. So it really depends on the audio device you are using, but it does work on Windows 7, 8, and 10. I don't think Windows 7 originally had it, but as long as you are up to date with the latest patches, it should be there.
I was wondering about my external soundcard, which is a fairly old SoundBlaster Model SB1240. I used this because the onboard Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop soundcard did not have a good enough sound several years back. I am using Windows 10 these days and thought to use WAS but so far have been unsuccessful. Am I correct in thinking my external soundcard will not allow this?

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
