As a retired Electronics Technician I hasten back to the countless schematics that used the, then in vogue, British term "piles" where we Colonials would use the term "battery/ies". It was perfectly clear what was meant but we Yanks would snicker over "piles" in the medical frame of reference. Certainly you have similar funny examples of American-English murdering the King's language. It has been fair game for humor over the centuries. Realizing that, I would never be offended by polite jabs at American-English, so let me have both barrels!
