They have at your disposal a delay, a reverb, a compressor, an EQ, a noise gate, and a limiter built in so you do not have to ad plugins. These can be used live , or recorded. And AS Mac said you can route them to the headphones and not the DAW so you can record dry ( no effects) and still hear the effects in the "cans"
