I've got BIAB 2012.5 (build 65) on disk. I've installed it and all the stuff in the RealTracks dmg. as advised.

I cannot find any of the new RealTracks, e.g. Sets 155-172. I note that the New Features Guide describes them as 'available' but your publicity and the admins' posts at the top of this Forum make it quite clear that they're included.

Am I missing something?

Hi Adrian

I'm in the same position as yourself. I just purchased BIAB 2012 and I upgraded to 2012.5 and I'm not sure how I verify what I have in my installation or even what I should have. I have a query with PG support which has still not been answered.

The contents of the Realtracks folder bears no relation to the Set numbering that you mention. I gather sets 155 - 172 were introduced at 2012.5, I'm not sure whether I have these. Should Sets 1 - 154 come with 2012.

I love the product and am having fun using it but find the configuration of all the various parts is confusing.

I also wonder whether it might be better to post generic problems like this (or my previous post I had concerning transposition) in the Windows forum. That seems to always have more viewing.

I'm pretty sure there are only 169 RealTracks, don't know where it says 172, maybe it's a typo in one of the documents.

I'm just quoting from the "Summary of New features", page 5, which says:

101 New RealTracks

There are 101 new available RealTracks (compared to Band-in-a-Box 2012), including:

Pop/Rock (36)
- RealTracks Set 155 - John Jarvis Pop Piano
- RealTracks Set 156 - TexasBluesRock - Straight 8ths
- RealTracks Set 157 - TexasBluesRock - Rock N Roll
- RealTracks Set 158 - Modern Dance Pop
- RealTracks Set 160 - Folk-Pop Ballads

Jazz (31)
- RealTracks Set 161 - Jazz-Funk Movin'
- RealTracks Set 162 - Mike LeDonne Jazz Waltz Organ
- RealTracks Set 163 - Dixieland - Medium RHythm Section
- RealTracks Set 165 - Son Montuno
- RealTracks Set 166 - Bolero

Country (34)
- RealTracks Set 167 - John Jarvis Country Piano
- RealTracks Set 168 - Praise and Worship - Modern Groove
- RealTracks Set 169 - Country Boogie and More
- RealTracks Set 171 - Western Swing Soloists
- RealTracks Set 172 - Killer Country Soloing

I think (I haven't waded through the list) that these all show up as 'n/a' on the style picker page.

I did clean re-instal of 2012.5, but not of 2011.5 and the 2012 upgrade. I'll check the PC Forum - good tip.

When I go into the style picker i have a selection of RealStyles, I'm not sure how these relate to Real Tracks

The only Real Tracks I have according to the style picker are 156: Texas Blues Rock. This is a set of 4.

There is an option under the MIDI pull down menu to see 'What Addons Do I have'. Again I'm still trying to find out what I should have with the 2012 Mega Pack + the 2012.5 Plus Pack.

Looked at all those. Don't seem to have any of the new stuff, which is very disappointing.

I would try re-installing again, it sounds like you both should have gotten 155-169 if you bought the "PlusPak" bundle.

I also have very few Realtracks.

I have the 2012 MegaPAK + the 2012.5 Plus PAK.

The MegaPAK states that it contains MEGA RealCombos with over 160 RealTracks which I took to mean basically everything and then the Plus PAK adds another 101, like you I dont seem to have any of those.

I agree its very disappointing.

Malcolm,
I just looked here: http://www.pgmusic.com/bbmac.packages.htm and it is clear that my Pro version is a a very cut-down one compared to, say, yours, but I was misled into believing that it would still have all those RealTracks and RealDrums. I suppose it's that weasel word 'available'.

I now need to work out exactly what I want and buy some standalone RealTrack sets, I guess.

PG Music say:

"Hi Adrian,
You can get those sets by purchasing the PlusPAK for $129, but keep in mind that you'll still be missing sets 1-154. The cheapest way to get all of the RealTracks would be to purchase and UltraPlusPAK ($279)"

PlusPAK is £81.27 and the UltraPak (with hard disk/memory stick) is £175.77!

I only want the country stuff - no real use for the jazz, other than what comes with the basic set, so I guess I should've paid more attention to what I was actually buying, but I do think the advertising and the New Features Guides could clarify that the Pro version really is cut down - in terms of the add-ons included - program functionality is the same.

Country RealPak Volume 1 is only (!) £63.00, so that's what I'll have to do. Still cheaper and more of what I actually want, than the Ultra.

Yes, I have to agree with this.

I have a support query on a similar issue with the MegaPak package. PG Music have been very patient and understanding but its taken half a dozen emails and responses to sort out. Mainly due to my interpretation of whats described on the packages page.

Adrian,

Glad you got it sorted to your satisfaction, without any of that annoying jazzy stuff. Note, though, that unless you are strictly doing traditional Country and Western music, many other Styles can be used to good effect behind what is nominally country. I'm thinking of Rock and Gospel Styles in particular that can be used to broaden your palette, particularly with contemporary country stylings.

Now that you are a registered user you qualify for upgrade prices. If you find yourself limited by what you now have (and you may not--I don't know exactly what you're trying to do) you may want to consider an enhanced package some time in the future.

In any case, welcome to the community. Have a great time and, if you feel so moved, share what you come up with!

Richard

I hear what you say, Ryszard, about using crossover styles in Country music - Vince Gill's been doing it for years!

Thanks for your good wishes and I will post some music, once I have everything set up to my satisfaction. The RealTracks sets are pretty hefty, so downloading has been going on for two days now, but I'm nearly there.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
