I should know better than to try and fix things that are not broken. I tried updating the firmware on my SD4 a couple of weeks ago, and it bricked the module. I had to send it back to the US repair facility in Delaware. He offered a choice of replacing the ROM (iffy) or the whole mainboard. As mine stopped running off AC some time ago, I went for the full replacement of the guts.

It was returned to me with the 1.3 firmware already installed. When I tried it wit BIAB is just stuttered like mad. I sent .mp3s of the same tune with both the SD4 and the SD1000 to the shop to illustrate the problem. I was told it seemed like the MIDI clock was misbehaving.

The SD4 works fine playing standard MIDI files (which is how the tech tested it.) It also works fine with Sonar. BIAB seems to have some incompatibility with the new ROM version.

As a warning, DO NOT UPGRADE !! The U.S. tech is checking with Italy to see if it is safe to down-rev the firmware back to 1.25 (which I suspect will fix it.)

Any other SD4 users out there?
