I have been using BIAB in a very basic way setting chords for practice, choosing a style and that is about it. On occasion I will enter the melody part. However some songs I want to learn have a very specific bass line or jazz comping part. I seem to remember reading somewhere that I can enter these in BIAB so that the bass part or whatever will play exactly the notes I want (maybe even only when the melody part is playing). Assuming it is true are there some good videos on how to do this. Thanks, John

I believe it's even easier than needing a video, John. There may indeed be one, but in the meantime, here are a few suggestions:
1. Enter your bass line on the Soloist channel and assign a good MIDI bass sound. You can then mute the RealTrack bass part at certain measures using F5. The RealTrack bass can play most grooves, but your bass plays the written hooks.
2. Use a MIDI bass on the bass track, edit it, and freeze the track so it doesn't get regenerated (because otherwise your edits would be overwritten).
3. Use a MIDI bass on the bass track, edit it, and copy the track to the Soloist track so it doesn't get regenerated. Then mute the 'regular' bass track by bringing the volume to zero (this gets saved; muting status does not). This is a good technique because you can continue to edit the track and not worry about it since the Soloist track is never regenerated.
I think you get the idea.

Hi Matt, I finally got around to this and got it to work. I did it by using the melody track that was blank and then simply pulling the volume down on the real track bass part (BIAB remembers that). To write the part in only the bass clef I used the instructions below which someone helped me from another post.
Go to "Editable Notation Mode". You see vertical dash lines splitting the quarter notes into 16ths or triplets.
Click the "Opt." button on the far left side in the lowest tool bar area.
In the middle column of the "Notation Window Options" you see "Clefs split at".
Change the "Clefs split at" value from the default C4 to a value of C5.
You still have to click the notes on the bass staff area but the result shows the notes properly for lead sheets.
