Hi Mario,

Great tune. You had me laughing and crying at the same time. My favorite lines were the "sharp stick in the eye" and the "stimulus package". Yeah, we need Viagra for the economy. I saw in the paper that two people in China were sentenced to death for the tainted milk episode and I thought well maybe we need something like that here. I hope our new Attorney General is able to meet out some justice. The kleptocracy needs to get clipped.

Jeez...The new administration just issued an executive order stating that we can't make terrorists "uncomfortable or speak harshly to them". You think they're gonna do something to congress???

I’m beginning to rank congress up there with terrorist organizations. They are the ones who have created this mess by their “fair trade” treaties, thus allowing manufacturers to outsource jobs and virtually eliminating the middle class. They also allowed, actually encouraged, banks to loan money to people who couldn’t repay them. I could go on and on but my blood pressure is rising.

I've been wondering how a post industrial economy is going to work. No way we can compete with China. After 10 years of Federal Government surpluses, we are going to have to run a deficit. At least our banks didn't hold a whack of that unsecured debt, like Iceland, Ireland, and the UK.

I thank my foresight into having a cabin with unlimited heat source (firewood), food in the lake and on the trail, and a young wife to haul water and wood.

The Republican controlled congress under Bush bears some blame for not doing it's job of regulating the financial markets, and the greatest fault goes to former Senator Phil Gramm who put the Glass-Steagall repeal through congress which then allowed no separation of commercial and investment banking and the conflict of interest that created. The anti-regulation policies of Alan Greenspan and the failures of Bush, Paulson(Treasury) and Cox(SEC) to control the markets. The failures due to greed of Moody's and Standard and Poors to properly rate the derivitives, the executives of Lehman, and AIG and also later to Fannie and Freddie. The Bush Tax cuts on the high end coupled with the capital gains tax cuts and the flood of liquidity (printing of $) made speculation (gambling) in markets such as real estate very profitable. Thus a person who works for a dollar (wages) were taxed at a higher rate than dollars gained through trading stocks and repackaged mortgage paper. Wall Street execs get bonuses in the millions each year, they are being rewarded for destroying the savings of millions of Americans. I expect to see some of the actions of these people legally scrutinized.

The new administration says interrogation must follow the Army field guide, you are misstating their position. Why am I not surprised.

Here's a list of the techniques of interrogation that are banned. Are you in favor of these?

Maybe Obama should follow Bushs' example in 2001 and go on vacation for a couple of months - gee I'm sure nothing bad could happen.

Army manual that bars 'waterboarding' now single standard

17 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) — A US Army field manual that bars the use of "waterboarding" and other harsh interrogation techniques was set forth Thursday as the single standard for interrogations of prisoners.

President Barack Obama ordered the change, which brings to a close the CIA's secret prisons and special interrogration authorities for "war on terror" detainees.

The manual, known as FM 2-22.3, was revised and reissued by the army in September 2006 amid a storm of controversy over abuses of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and other detention centers.

It cites the Geneva Convention's prohibition of "cruel, inhman and degrading treatment" of prisoners.

Beyond that, it explicitly prohibits the following actions in intelligence operations:

-- forcing the detainee to be naked, perform sexual acts, or pose in a sexual manner:

-- placing hoods or sacks over the head of a detainee; using duct tape over the eyes.

-- applying beatings, electric shock, burns, or other forms of physical pain;

-- waterboarding;

-- using military working dogs;

-- inducing hypothermia or heat injury;

-- conducting mock executions;

-- depriving the detainee of necessary food, water, or medical care.

Although US laws required that military interrogations be subject to the army field manual, the Centrial Intelligence Agency until now had been allowed to use its own undisclosed rules for interrogating detainees.

The executive order requires that all interrogations conducted at US facilities worldwide follow the army field manual.

The order also prohibits the CIA from holding prisoners in third countries.

CIA director Michael Hayden has said the "enhanced" interrogation techniques have produced valuable information and saved lives.

But in a message to the agency's staff, he said, "We will review the order carefully and issue appropriate guidance to ensure that we continue to act in consonance with the law and with policy direction."

"When our government changes its law or policy, we will follow that direction without exception, carve-out, or loophole," Hayden said.

US Defense Secretary Robert Gates, a former CIA director himself, said "the need for measures that go outside the Army Field Manual is dramatically less than it was several years ago."

He said it was a matter of weighing "the cost of the more severe interrogation measures with, as the president talked about in his inaugural address, our values."

I just liked the song. Reminded me of something the Doors would have done. Way to go.

That was an excellent song for the time Mario. My question now would be ... "What are we gonna do about it?

I guess the new form of interrogation would be to have women dressed as hookers walk closely by the terrorists and read The Scriptures, non-stop, to them. They'd probably be ready to co-operate within a weeks time of that going on 24/7. No body would have to touch them. Just let the nurses walk around reading ... maybe ... thru a bull horn or something to be sure the terrorists hear the gospel real well. :

I would do anything necessary. Even if it was only to save your family.

The "huggers" keep citing the Geneva Convention. You guys should have a meeting with the terrorists & remind them that according to the Convention, they have to wear uniforms. (I'm sure it was an oversight) Maybe you could also ask them, nicely, not to behead folks or strap bombs to their kids. (They were most likely unaware that these are considered unacceptable practices)

THEN...we could just have one of those socially "acceptable" wars. You know...the kind where everyone is playing according to the rule-book, and no one really gets hurt.

Thanx Russ.

What WE have to do is to NOT reelect any incumbents! We keep putting the same people back in government and expect change. Change is not gonna happen until we place people in office that represent John Q. Public.

What we should do is to lock them in a room with a TV that only telecasts from Congress. After 24/7/365 of seeing and listening to our House and Senate they probably would commit suicide. But the ALCU would find that as “cruel and unusual punishment”!

Mick, a lot of us up here in Western NY feel exactly the same way.

There always has been and always will be civilian casualties in war. I’m amazed at how little there are today even though the terrorist hides behind civilians!

My outlook is that if Hamas, Al Qaeda and the Talibon laid down their weapons we would have peace. If Israel and the western world would lie down our weapons we would all be killed.

If the ACLU had it's way...you would be sued for slander. Shame on you for speaking so harshly!
They're just poor, ignorant people trying to make a point. Aren't they entitled? Where's your sense of fairness?

That would make the libs/socialists happy. Oh!... Wait a minute. They would be dead too! No matter...justice would be served. At least the world would be spared from the hate mongers.

There is no evidence that the use of torture in investigations has yielded any useful information or saved any lives. But I have heard that action taken on bad intelligence obtained by torture has led to the loss of life as our troops were sent into traps.

Isn't saying I should be for torture to save my family just another fear tactic. Wasn't that the way Bush sold the Iraq War - Saddam has his finger on the nuclear trigger,- blah, blah, blah.

Every knows the Arab terrorists are as bad as any other terrorists. I'm not making excuses for them, but I'm not interested in emulating them. I was embarrassed by our policies under Bush, evidently most Americans feel the same way.

Calling people "huggers" just shows the contempt you have for people who don't share your views.
