I talked with tech support on phone but that got me nowhere with this. I bring up and play a style and for practice, click on the .WAV button, render the file and try audio burn to CD. When I go to CD and click on the file, I keep getting Error 1856 notice. Tech support on phone said to use a third party burner, which I did but same result. He did not know answer. (Also, if I attempt to burn a second style to same CD, it keeps telling me to insert a blank CD. Aren't there burner programs that will allow me to burn one song at a time?)
For now I just play the tune inside BB and record on a digital recorder. The quality is not as good but what else can I do?

This sounds more like a Windows problem than BB. If you download a 3rd party burner software like Nero, save your file was a WAV file (merge tracks yada yada yada...), and burn it in Nero with "convert to MP3" enabled with BB closed, see what happens then. If I were a gambling man I would bet it will fail then too, so you can remove BB from the mix.

I used a program called Easy Burning Software that did burn the first one to CD; it played back in Windows Media Player I believe. After that with other attempts (Easy would erase previous entries first), I now keep getting a message about incorrect code being used.
I'll stick with using a recorder. especially since only one burn is allowed by these burn programs.
Too bad audio files cannot be copied one at a time like text files can be.

The play back in (insert program name here) is moot. You can associate any file to open in any program. In your case your default application for MP3 was Windows Media Player. (For me it is VLC. For the next guy it may be Real Player. Etc...)
Your error message was more likely about a wrong CODEC being used. You can fix that by downloading the K-lite CODEC package.
Either way, nothing you said would have anything to do with BB or RB. Still points to a Windows error.

I did download trial version of "full" Nero program. When I tried to bring in a render WAV file made in BB, it wouldn't recognize the file type. Also, could not find anywhere in Nero to "convert to Mp3 file".
I hesitate to download more programs that don't seem to work and will clutter up my HD. (The Nero program is BIG).

Okay, look for something called Goldwave or Adobe's Audition software. You can load the WAV file into them, then using SAVE AS you can save it out as an MP3 at whichever sample rate you like (I use 320 for best possible audio quality after the file is converted, which also compresses it). THEN when you have your MP# try to burn it. Nero won't convert. I did not explain that clearly enough. My bad.

Bob, A couple of questions spring to mind that it would be very handy for all of us to the know the answers to so that we can better help you with your question. 1. What is your operating system? 2. Is it 32 bit or 64 bit? 3. What version of BIAB do you use? For what it's worth, I use "CD Burner XP" (which also works on Vista and Win 7 just fine). It's small, great and price is terrific 'cause it's freeware. You can find it at ... http://cdburnerxp.se/en/homeI'm with eddie in that it sounds like codecs to me. Did you try his suggestion about installing K-Lite? That's one of the best collection of codecs around. During the installation process, just choose "no" to installing the optional software that piggybacks on freeware these days. Also, K-Lite, will install it's own version of a media player. I always say "no" to that too. Regards, Noel

Am using Windows 7, 64 bit Home edition and BB 2012, Bluegrass Pak (from Janet Davis site). I also downloaded Rhythm sets 11 and 33 Real Tracks.
I will take your latest advice but while I am at it I might ask one thing more.
I do prefer recording my BB rhythms - I use the Sony BX 112 portable recorder by placing it near external speakers when I play back the rhythms from BB. When plugging the Sony into computer jack to come through the external speakers, it sounds reasonable. Such recording I could then easily play at someone else's place as accompaniment to my banjo.
I was wondering if there are better quality portable recorders out there for such purpose.
Are there any where a WAV or mp3 file could be transferred to the recorder through, say, a USB connection (I assume quality here would be better than via a microphone).
Any advice would be appreciated. I'll also let you know the result of my taking your latest advice.

If your aoundcard is locked to a different bitrate then 16/44.1, it might be that you are trying to burn a CD with the wrong bitrate. CD bitrate is only 16/44.1.
Some soundcards, especially those with ASIO drivers, can be locked to a bitrate other than BB's native 44.1.
Worth investigating.

I just converted a rythym to MP3 using audacity. When I click on this, still getting 1856 error message. Ugh!
How would I check (or change) the bit rate on sound card?

I think it's a basic lack of understanding of the CD burning process. Let's forget about burning DVDs at the moment. And bootable CDs & ISO images. The average person deals with 2 types of CD burns: 1. AUDIO CDs 2. DATA CDs AUDIO CD's are for burning 44.1x16bit wav files only. The Red Book spec for burning these CDs requires that only a single burn be allowed and that the CD is Finalized after the burn whether it be 1 song or 15.If you want standard CDs this is what you want.If you want MP3s you also burn them as Audio if you want them to play in a standard player. MP3 just let's you get more songs on a disc. DATA CDs are just that. Data. It can be any file. Even wav files or MP3s BUT the wav files will not play in a standard CD player. They need to be opened by a program.Data CDs do not need to be finalized after a burn and can be written to again.

BTW "BurnAware Free" is the best no nonsense burner out there. And very small & easy. BTW2 Another term for Audio CDs be it Wav files or MP3s is called "Disc At Once" as the name implies only one burn per disc.

Sorry about that. I am doing nothing more about the 1856 error problem. I will buy a good quality portable recorder and use that instead of burning to CD's.

Bob. Please. What you're talkiing about is Bonehead Computer 101 stuff. I'm not making fun of you, everybody starts somewhere.
A 10 year old kid can burn CD's, MP3's, load them into your phone, an IPad, their cars using Bluetooth, different other players, send them to their friends, convert them to whatever, use them as a soundtrack to a movie they shot using their phones and post them all over the internet. They've been doing this for oh, 15 years or so. Whatever your problem is it's something really basic and simple. Don't go off spending money you don't have to spend unless you have another use for that recorder anyway.
Work through this buddy because you need basic computer skills to get the best out of these programs. Without it you're going to get really frustrated.

I agree. If burning a CD is throwing you you'll never get much out of the PG progs.

I have burned stuff to CD's two or so years ago (It's been a while). Just have trouble with BB.
By the way, this may reveal something:
In Windows 7 I do a search for *.mp3 and mp3 files come up. But when I click on one, I get that error 1856 message (before even trying a burn - can't even open the mp3 file).

Your computer has issues.Error 1856 error is a registry error. I would download the Free program called CCleaner. Go to www.ccleaner.com and download the most recent version. Make sure you do a registry backup when it asks you. This program will clean up your registry and hopefully help . I used it for many years. Give it a shot and see how it goes.

Finally! I downloaded BurnAware Free and was able to easily burn a render WAV to my CD.
I have run CCleaner as well as others on my HD yesterday but no fix.
However, I just now tried to burn another song to the CD (after Burnaware reerased the CD). I see "Track 01" listed but when I click on it, a file on my HD in Windows Media center plays instead. I found that Burnaware was not erasing the RW CD. I right clicked on drive and selected erase disk, which it did this time. But when I tried to reburn WAV rendering file, it no longer writes to the CD.
Ugh!
I'll play around with Burnaware some more and keep you posted.

Bob,
It sounds like you might be trying to burn onto a finalized CD.
If this were my problem, before I started playing around with CD RW disks, I'd be using just plain CD R, single tracks disks just to make sure I had the process correct.
Just in case you're not familiar with CDRs and how the writing process works, once an audio file is written to a CD, the CD needs to be finalized so that it can be read by various devices. When the finalizing has been done, nothing more can be written to that particular CD. It's now necessary to get a new, blank CD.
Hope this information is useful, Noel
