Dear Abbey I have about a dozen voice/acoustic guitar mixes from the seventies - studio recorded. Managed to get them onto my computer - tape is still good. I must have been excited when I recorded them because now they seem maybe 5% too fast to me. I'd like to slow them down by no more than 5% if that much. I have used a timeshifter provided in the 'wave editor' of my Nero Burning software. I am told that there are artifacts in the slower version created in Nero (my dead ears can't detect this). I know Audacity has a time shifter - I'm assuming some are better than others and leave fewer artifacts. What is the Forum's collective experience and do you folks have any suggestions for a good time shifter??? signed - Shiftless in Ottawa

It can depend on the amount and the original quality level of the material. Acid Express 7 is a free download, and I've used that with better results than some other time shift tools.
I also just download a trial version of Mixcraft which uses an a process that seems to be even better at adjusting keys and tempo etc.
You might want to give one of those a try.

Have you tried the PGMusic one?
open a wave file in RB (or PT), then right-click the display and select time stretch/pitch shift option..
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Goldwave, audacity, Sound Forge, Etc. Most of the wave editors with time and pitch stretch pretty well. I recently did a file for a friend, that was tape recorded 35 years ago and the tape recorder was a tad slow, so the recording ran fast on new equipment. I adjusted the timing to the proper length and it sounded new again. It will work fine just don't save under the same name and you can go back.

*Check the tuning center with a tuner plugin or separate tuner after time-shifting.
*Cassette tapes are notorious for spinning slow at the beginning and fast at the end due to feed and takeup reel sizes plus lousy capstan action. This will change both the speed of the song AND the pitch. Worse yet, it is a continuously changing shift.
