I was messing around updating our software vintage synths the other day and this song just sort of appeared. It's unusual for me not to have any guitars in there, but the tracks simply came out as Drums, Rhodes piano, Prophet synth and brass. One more track for the vocal and then, would you believe, a further twenty four tracks of backing vocals. Thanks go to my wife, June for helping out with the lyrics when I got blocked and to Josh Kenyon for additional backing vocals. It is, of course, all recorded and mixed in PowerTracks. BAD GIRL He was tall and handsome He had money, he had style He had everything a girl could want Wrapped up in a smile She was young and pretty She was barely seventeen She looked so sweet and gentle But things aren't always what they seem She was a bad girl, yes she was And there was nothing he could do She was bad from head to toe She was a bad girl through and through When she said she loved him She never looked him in the eyes Her smile was sweet as honey But her eyes were cold as ice Her words they dropped like velvet Just as soft as summer rain But underneath the softness The hardness still remained And when he said "I'm leaving I've had more than I can take" Her tears would fall, his heart would break She knew he never could escape You may have a strange feeling that you've been transported back to the 80s. Like that style Rog. Sounds to me like a cross between early Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. Like the lyrics.

I enjoyed it. It really did "take you back" to the 80's. The lyric was very nicely put together - well written.
Love your vocal sound!!! That Petty/Dylan mix is awesome.

Well at the risk of being redundant.....I like the Heartbreakers feel. You really nailed the 80's on the mix.

It's not often I get complements about my voice - I always understood it was something of an acquired taste!
My wife says she always aspired to being the Bad Girl, but never made the grade. Lucky for me eh?

It amazes me how much you sound like Petty Rog. And that addition of the Prophet...well to a hardware junkie like me ..well that's the icing on the cake. Nice job!

Mountainside - I've always been a Petty fan, so I really appreciate your comments. By the look of the equipment in your sign-off you're as much a man of the 80s as I am! Wasn't the Prophet just the best thing ever.

Hmm... I thought I had commented on this long ago, but I don't see it in the list of replies.
OK then, here goes:
I like your stylized approach to the vocals. I didn't hear Tom Petty as expected after reading the other comments, but I was fascinated by how well the relaxed approached worked for the song.
It reminded me of the phenomenon in which a scrambled word is easily recognized as long as the first and last letters are in the right place. In spite of the free form style, it seemed to me that at each measure marker the pitch was nailed, and the stuff in between was justified by that. Interesting
And, of course, where the craft is concerened, you're a pro.
