A love song but slightly different from the normal smile
It's been hanging around a while and I eventually finished it a few weeks ago

Damn it's good

damn it's good
I've got this feeling I've never before had in this world
damn it's good
and it's good to share this feeling
I never wanna be without you by my side

now you know
it's what you see not what you know
that gets what you need not what you want you don't want everything
in words we play with others minds or to put another way
what you see is what you get
what you put in you get out

damn it's good
that I have this feeling or maybe it's just that I'm saying it to you
damn it's good
my mind is reeling
I can't believe that what I've been saying is all true
as true as the things that you do

SOLO

now you know I told you so
it's not what you see but what you know that gets you what you need
in other words we play with others minds
what you see is what you get
what you put in you get out

damn it's good
we both have a feeling that each of us know each others mind
I've got this feeling dah dah dahdahdah
bet your life its good

Damn......IT'S GOOD!! Damn good!! This is really, really cool. If I heard it on the radio, I would have thought it could be a previously unreleased John Lennon song. Really creative, really interesting, and perfectly executed. Great stuff!! Take care. Greg

Hi Alyn,

As with all your work, this is readily identifiable as 'your creation'. I mean that in a really good way! Your unique musical and lyrical style is a signature in audio.

Your songs are always an absolute pleasure to hear. This one is no exception. It was a great journey. I compliment you on your guitar lead break, too. You're a talented man!

Overall, it's lots of applause from me smile

Greg,
I am humbled by your comments, Lennon was an early musical hero/influence.

This website has attracted some great talent. Wouldn't life be boring if we all were musically similar? Says a lot about the versatility of BIAB
I am now lost for words, but am so glad you enjoyed. All that practice seems to have paid of LOL

Alyn I agree with the others; damn it's good! I also agree with the Lennon remark as it does sound like something that he would write!

I really like your vocal, lyrics and chord progression on this one. That guitar is top notch for sure.

Hi Alyn,

These vocals remind us a little of Life on Mars by David Bowie, indeed a Lennon touch also.
Very original!
Looking forward to your next song!

Hi Alyn.

Sure, I can hear the touches of Bowie and Lennon in there, but above all it's Gibson through and through.

I never fail to be astounded at the sheer creativity which abounds in your work and it's like a wake-up call to me to get out the composing rut and dare to try something this original.

What more can I say, except that the whole package is very, very, professional and one of those tracks which you can never play just once. Just going back for the third.

ROG.

Alyn!!!!!

TOTALLY Awesome!

SO very original (even if it DOES sound like it came off The White Album!!!!)

I am totally impressed with your choice of instruments and how you made them sound so DIFFERENT. What did you do to that bass to make it stand out so distinctly and yet be perfectly "in the mix"??????

I've use the calypso piano a few times and it has NEVER sounded like that!!! Perfect!

Who knew that Texas Blues guitar was so Beatlesque!

Love your vocals! Cool lead guitar!

What a cool song!!!!!!!!

Just a GREAT BIG WOW, dude.

Thanks Mario, all these comparisons to the great Lennon make me feel extremely humbled.

Wow! compared to Mr Bowie, another of my influences since'69.

Thank you so much. Secretly I have always wanted to have a smooth vocal like yourself, and others on this forum. I hated my voice and used to smother it in effects until about 10 years ago when I thought I have got to accept it. LOL

all the best

Alyn

I try to write as if I am talking about whatever I am writing about, a sort of free-form poem, which I then put to music. Rarely the music comes first and even more rare both together!!

The music your studio produces is top-notch, you are the master of your game. I have a lot of what I call standard songs but the ones I like are the weird ones, that is the polite translation of what my friends call them LOL
Thanks for listening

Alyn

I always drag and drop the tracks in stereo and I was mixing the music bed, ie piano and bass, and the bass just kept disappearing or I had to have it heavily effected.
Then I had one of those "I wonder what will happen if I do that" moments.
In my DAW Cubase SX1.06 (10+ years old)there is an audio processing effect called reverse phase where one can reverse the phase of either channel or both; both made the bass very weak so I reversed the left channel(random choice) and HOLY COW there it was... Bass AND piano sitting together.Complimentary frequencies on one channel ...gone!! I have no real idea why it works but it did, in this song definitely!! Side effect was the string slap was a bit more pronounced but MEH crazy I can live with that! Also the pan was a little one side heavy, forget which, which was easy to adjust.

After a little dance I tried doing the same to the piano this time, but it was different but not, to my ears, as pronounced.

This technique doesn't always work, as I have gone back to some of my songs trying it, BUT it sometimes works with 2 different RT guitars, both similar ie acoustic or electric, or an RT 12 str guitar and my DI'd 12 string.

I also use Steinberg Mastering suite which has a Loudness Maximiser and that always runs on the pre-mastering mix, adjusted to taste. This suite is the main reason I will not upgrade from XP pro as the suite seems not to exist now.

Anyway so glad you enjoyed!!
I should I suppose post this in the tips and tricks section; I don't use RealBand and the effect may exist in there somewhere.

PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for listening

Alyn

An awesome clinic in the creative use of varied RT's. And a heckuva production to wrap it all up in.

I'm down with floyd regarding the "White Album" vibe. We both like EVERYTHING about it -- vocals, the write, RT's, the mix and all that magic you described in response to floyd.
