Hi all,
I did a little downloading this weekend - and finally discovered an Android app that does SOME (not nearly as exhaustively) as what BB does.
ChordBot is an Android app that will allow you to pick a "typical" progression progression (Pop or Jazz), generate some chords for you, and play them back in a variety of styles having multiple instruments.
Has anyone played around with this app ? - is the paid version worth the upgrade price ? - do you know of anything better on Android or iPhone - is there any way to easily port BB songs into some of these Android or iPhone apps ?
Thanks in advance, Joe

Try iRealPro. I think it comes closer to BIAB. I've used it on gigs when I didn't want to carry my laptop. There are quite a few rhythms to choose from, not as sophisticated as BIAB though. You can enter your own chords for any particular song. http://irealpro.com/ Later, Ray

Garageband on iOS has some features which are useful for auto accompaniment - but you have to set up what chords you want the 'smart instruments' to have available, then you use some type of single finger entry while recording to pick from that set of chords for the duration of your single-finger action. Kind of like a Casio/Yamaha arranger keyboard with one-finger-chord action. So it's not BIAB, but it can be actually quite useful.
If you want live play capability, there's no choice - iOS runs circles around Android as core audio and core midi functions are part of the OS, nearly eliminating any latency. This is also why there are probably 1000 x more music apps for iOS than there are for Android.

iRealPro comes with over 1800 tunes (chords only), which you download from their forum. It plays equally well on iOS and Android. It's almost like BIAB, no other app does quite like it does. Later, Ray

EZComposer and the SessionBand series of apps are other alternatives for iOS.
I don't get along well with iRealB but I find ChordBot quite useful. The Song-O-Matic feature can randomize a decent chord progression every now and again.

IRealPro (formerly iRealB) is handy as a reference. On my iPhone, it's too small to read chords on a gig. On the iPad, you could.
Chord Bot runs on the iPhone also. It's very handy for a composer to play with ideas for new chord progressions. If I recall correctly, the pro version gives many more rhythm and background choices.
There are several (at least 20 I've seen) apps that read PDF charts. I use an Airturn Digit with my iPad. Works great.

I use iRealPro live on gigs. I play tunes that I know and have my own sub chords entered. All I need to see on the screen is when the out chorus is being played. Programs that do auto-chording are not good for my purposes. Live playing is all I do for a living, with BIAB or iRealPro. Later, Ray

Ray, you are using an iPad or other tablet on your gigs, yes?
Have you tried the $129 AirTurn Digit for turning pages in PDFs of sheet music? Pretty neat.

Hi Matt. If I have a short solo gig, I use iRealPro on my android phone. If I have a normal length gig, I'll bring my laptop and use BIAB for more variance in backing tracks. I have the tunes I use in iRealPro and BIAB memorized and only need to see the number of choruses to be played. If I do a duo gig with the vocalist I usually work with, I'll use my laptop/android tablet and BIAB or iRealPro since I don't have all his tunes memorized yet. Later, Ray

iRealPro is by far the closest to BB; thanks for suggesting Ray - and for your feedback Matt, Scott, and Keebo. I just plunked my $11.00 for it very happily - the library of songs (chord progressions only) you can download is huge (not that it's rocket science to enter a bunch of chord names in - but it is REALLY nice not to have to do it and go right to using the product for it's intended use)
The only thing missing from it is the melody lines - which are great if you're looking to discover new tunes while walking your dog lol (which is actually how I use it ha ha).
Regards, Joe

PG does the same thing with the demo songs. There was a forum contest going a few years ago called Name that Tune.
We all came up with something like 30 demo songs that were actually classic tunes that PG plugged different melodies into.
