So I’m trying to burn my dad a cd for father’s day.. I know he really likes classical rock like The Zombies, Electric Light Orchestra, along with the Beatles, pink floyd, and The Who.. I found Moody Blues on amazon’s daily deals for just1.99 (http://bit.ly/MoodyBluesDaysofFuturePassed) so I’m gonna definitely put that in. does anyone have any other songs/artists I should look in to? I want to put songs he hasn’t really heard of yet and I really don’t know much about music… thanks in advance!

Throw in some Monty Alexander playing the Bob Marley tunes. "No Woman No Cry" or "Jammin'".
Kurt Elling's "Nature Boy" or "Time of the Season".
Tommy Emmanuel maybe playing one of the Beatles medley tunes.
Tuck and Patti's wonderful performance of Jimi Hendrix' "Castles Made of Sand/Little Wing."
These are all jazz renditions of songs he should know from his era and are real horizon expanders because of the virtuosity involved.

Well, Mac, if ya wanna go THAT route . . . - Big thumbs up on "Castles Made Of Sand" . . .
- Steve Morse shredding Led Zep's "Kashmir" should open his eyes . . .
- Richie Havens doing anything (all he did were covers of 60s artists, and they were all great) . . .
- California Guitar Trio with "Bohemian Rhapsody" . . .
- not period, but seriously wonderful, The Cardigans and Tom Jones doing "Burning Down The House" . . .
- Michael Hedges, "Come Together" live--with four-part audience participation, or "Pinball Wizard" as a solo on harpguitar (was it me, I'd open the disk with that, give him a taste of what was coming) . . .
Stay tuned, I'll think of more God Bless ya, child R.

Kansas had a bunch of very good songs that were over shadowed by the hits Dust in the Wind and Carry on Wayward Son. If you can find some of their other songs, you won't go wrong. Listen To My MusicRead My BlogMy Web PageReverbnation

At least one track from Jimi Hendrix track and Led Zeppelin would have to be in such a selection. 'Purple Haze' and 'Communication Breakdown' respectively would do the trick!
