I found this work in progress from a few years back going through some old files and thought I'd finish it up in RealBand. The song was composed by a friend Austin Hammond and I did the arrangement and performance. This was prior to BIAB for me and I was using a Yamaha PSR 910 workstation for backing tracks. I Imported and processed the MP3 through the Audio Chord Wizard for chords and tempo map. Used automated volume on three tracks of the RT1707 Brent Mason Soloist Electric guitar. The original stereo track came from a low quality mp3 so there are a few artifacts but this is all that remains - so presenting it as I found it. Hope you enjoy and comments welcome. Cheating Songs and Old Milwaukee Here are the lyrics for those interested. This old country bar room has become my favorite place sipping old Milwaukee until I lose every trace of Miss Brenda's memory and the pain she left behind It's a quarter past you better fill my glass before it's closing time Cheating Songs and Old Milwaukee made a fool of me it's 3 am, I'm half drunk, acting 23 I should go home but I'd be alone all my friends are here Hey bartender, one more round of that Old Milwaukee Beer Sitting here at Bill's Place just playing those cheating songs Should I play Willie Nelson or should I stick with George Jones it don't really matter, just don't play Your Cheating Heart You might run out of Old Milwaukee and that'd tear me all apart. Cheating Songs and Old Milwaukee made a fool of me it's 3 am, I'm half drunk, acting 23 I should go home but I'd be alone all my friends are here Hey bartender, one more round of that Old Milwaukee Beer

I wish you had posted the lyrics Charlie, because what I could make out sounded really clever! Before a lot of people post, maybe you would want to do that.
I like the concept and title quite a bit. "CHEATIN' SONGS AND OLD MILWAUKEE MADE A FOOL OF ME.." is a very catchy phrase. Very "Classic Country" sounding.
I also think it's cool that you used the ACW to resurrect an old song and keep what was already done... and have it tempo mapped so you could add more tracks! Thare are probably visitors to the showcase who have a need to do that sometimes, so your example is useful.
Given the mixing challenges of trying to blend an existing multitrack audio file with new tracks makes me wonder why you didn't go ahead and let BIAB replace all the tracks once you had the tempo mapped and the chords extracted. All you'd have had to do is sing the melody, and you'd have had a seamless backing track and total leeway to mix it any way you like.
But, having said that, I think you did an amazing job of blending old and new together.

Hey Pat, thanks for the lyrics reminder. I completely overlooked that this time. Thanks for listening.
One reason I did not just re-cut the entire song after getting the chords and tempo from the Audio Chord Wizard is I actually do this a lot. This particular version is the only existing version left of the work done on this song and is an early scratch track that is incomplete as far as soloist instruments are concerned. There is also a pretty obvious mis chord at the end of the song, thus the abrupt fade out. But I have always liked this version and recently there has been some forum discussion by Herb and Floyd on their construction techniques and having multiple tracks of the same instrument and using volume envelopes to mix the tracks without bouncing sections from each track into a main track.
I decided this would be a good song to experiment with that technique. Having multiple tracks also allowed for the opening intro to be panned to the center and the remaining soloist parts panned some to the right.

Clever writing....
I'm with Pat... rather than using ACW... just rebuild it from scratch.
That solves another problem... the structure of the song. The breaks between the verses are too long as well as some other structural issues.
I can understand you wanting to keep the original version for sentimental reasons, however, if this is redone right, the new version would quickly become your favorite, and be sooooo muchhhh better.
So......
If you know the BPM of the song....and have a good DAW.... you can rebuild this to a fine song using just the vocal track.... and by editing the vocals and placing them where you need them you could rebuild this into a really good song.
There are 2 songs on my soundclick page that were done in this exact manner..... I built them from the bare vocal track up.... In a World without You and I Know You;re up To It.
Structurally, you have a 4 verse song....with no real chorus like most songs have. However, that's not really a problem in this genre of music if it's done right. What you need to do is cut the time between the verses to practically nothing.... short intro... I'd have brought the vox in at the end of that hot guitar lick..... verse 1 right into verse 2. What I will do is ADD a measure sometimes 2.... you are placing 4 bars between the verses...that's way too long. You lose the drive of the lyrics when you do that. Edit with a DAW can fix that properly.
I deleted a large part of this post....
Of course, this is just my opinion....
And, you can always keep a copy of the original song.....
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Fun feel-good tune! Loved the vibe. I'm a former Old Milwaukee man myself. I remember many a night in college slammin' down Ol Mils. Nicely done song! Take care. Greg

Charlie this is really good. I like the " Cheating Songs and Old Milwaukee made a fool of me it's 3 am, I'm half drunk, acting 23". Myself and I'm sure most all on this forum have seen those guys, especially if you played in a bar. That brought back some great funny memories!
Personally except for that ending I like this as it is now. For the ending I cut and past a few of the last measures then fade them out.
Regardless I really like this song,
Ps but I don't like Old Milwaukee beer!

Hi Charlie,
nice song. It's worth that you rebuilt it. Pity that the lead is not in the right tempo. Very enjoyable listen though.

Hi Charlie,
This is a great song. I reckon Herb is on to something when he says to rebuild it rather than try to incorporate the original into the mix. It would be interesting to hear the two versions side by side and see which works better.
I'm going back to another listen. This is definitely a composition to be proud of.
All the best, Noel

Charlie,
Boy, that really sounds like "how they used to write 'em". Classic.
Nice that you are working to enhance the original. A couple of the licks stop a little abruptly, but there are several that work well...
Listened a few times and it really gets into your head in a hurry...

Charlie
Nice toe-tappin' country
Good ideas above to mix from scratch, it would allow the timing to be a bit tighter.
Great lyric and concept. Really enjoyed the listen. Thanks for sharing

Charlie, This is maybe your best vocal. You did an admirable job of playing the background instruments. The timing on the guitar fills is off a little and I also think it would be a good idea to take your vocal and lay it on top of newly constructed tracks. Or just sing it again. I would love to hear an updated version. I have been listening to and playing this style most of my life and this is a good song. Tom

Hi Charlie,
This is a very nice song, although we agree with Pat and Herb on some things. Yes, we think this song would be worth recording again from scratch with real tracks.
