I'm trying to decide whether to order the UltraPak on discs or the 80 GB USB drive (I'll be upgrading from the basic BIAB version 7).

1. Does the USB drive have to be plugged into an A/C outlet or is it powered from the USB connection?

2. Is it a small drive similar in size to the Western Digital Passport drives, or is it a larger unit similar to the Western Digital "My Books"?

3. I've seen recommendations that the USB drive is the best way to order the UltraPak. However, ordering the installation discs (DVD's?) would seem to provide a back up without taking up a lot of disk space for 1 (or 2) backups of the USB drive. What are your thoughts on the pros and cons of the USB drive vs. the discs?

Also, I no longer have version 7 installed on my PC. Does the upgrade installation program expect to find an old version installed on the PC? If so, I can't re-install version 7 because I can't find a BIAB installation disc in my collection of PC software discs. It might have even have been on 3.5 " floppy discs rather than a disc back then, but I threw out all my floppy disks long ago. I have no record of the serial number. All I can find is the printed manual. I am sure that I registered BIAB when I first bought it though, so PG Music should have a record of my prior ownership that would qualify me for the upgrade price.

1. It depends on which drive you get. PG Music has used at least two types of drive. One works just on USB power. The other requires a second USB port or sometimes a USB powered hub.

2. The drive I have is small, much smaller than a My Book.

3. If you install from the USB drive, you have the drive as a backup.

4. If you call PG Music support, they can get you set with your version 7 installation. I'm pretty sure they used CDs by that point. I recommend installing older versions and upgrading because sometimes the older versions came with additional goodies in the form of bonus paks.

It depends on your situation.
1.If your computer has a large drive and it's the only one you use get discs.
2. If your computer doesn't have a large drive or you want to use more then one computer get the USB HD & burn backups.

My copy of Version 7 is on floppies, although it may have been available both ways. I have it installed on a Pentium Nada 180 MHz with 80 Mb RAM and Win2K. It runs beautifully--far better than on the original Win 3.1 PC with the 486/20 and 8 (or was it 16?) Mb RAM. I think it also came with ver. 1.0 of Slow Blast.

But there is no actual need for it to be installed, or for you to physically have the program. As long as you registered with PG you will be eligible for an upgrade price.

There is no down-side to the hard drive option. You can either run the program from the USB hard drive, or install the whole thing to your main computer hard drive (and use the USB drive as a backup). So I would recommend the hard drive option.

Have Fun!

The nice thing about the external drive is that when you get updates, your songs, etc., you can put them on the drive as well. You can't do that on DVDs. Then you'll have the whole entire package in one place that is easily accessible.

I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

Yes, for all those reasons, I'm very happy with my hard drive from PG Music. Plus, if you get the audiophile version, it's the only practical choice.
