Hi everyone.

Those of you who've been on the forum for some years may have heard a version of this song before, but this is the video edit. We filmed the video in Scarborough, which is a seaside town near where we live and it features all the girls who used to sing for us before they left for university last year. Ellie features in the video and Jessie provides the other lead vocal to mine. Courtney did most of the BVs. We had a lot of fun filming with Ellie over the Easter recess and I hope you all like the result. All the recording, mixing and mastering was done in Realband and Powertracks. Video editing was with Serif Movie Plus X6.

SHE'LL NEVER KNOW
It's funny how the way it is
You only hurt the one you love
And when she's gone you always find
You only want what you can't have.
And when she says "Can we still be friends
And not react like lovers do?"
And though the answer's always "Yes"
She'll never know what that does to you.

She say's it's good to end this way
And so you smile and carry on
You play a part as on the stage
And try to act like nothing's wrong
But if by chance you see her face
Across the street in some crowded place
You turn and run like cowards do
She'll never know what that does to you.

It's just your turn to take the fall
You know you could have had it all
But some you win and some you lose
And she'll never know what that does to you.

Many thanks to all who have time to listen.

ROG.

ROG,

That makes Scarborough look really nice, never seen it dry!! But then only been there once or twice. The beach looks a bit like Tenby, but without the rock, I don't remember it like that.

Anyway
All is up to your normal high standards.
Pity we could'nt see you, I assume, playing the solo.

A good retro '80's feel, well mixed etc as usual

A good video, nice tune.

Thoroughly enjoyed

Thoroughly enjoyed the remix, and the use if vision to add a further dimension.

Great job (again).

Hi ROG,

I recall aspects of this song from before but I don't remember it sounding so brilliant. With the addition of video, this is a production showpiece. What you and your crew have put together is exceptionally good.

The ending credits were a great touch!

Terrific work!

Excellent video and excellent music = A 'reunion' video.
That was surely a lot of fun for all involved. It was fun to see and hear for us viewers. Good job.

ROG (and gang)...

Super job on this! The video is delightful - well done.

I really like this song. The vocals are super.. the instrumentation is terrific - everything (guitars, organ, horns) all blended so very well. Excellent mix.

Really enjoyed listening (several times)

Really enjoyed the song and video Rog, great production throughout, with something to hold your attention for length of song.

Great guitar playing too.

Very cool!! Interesting mix of styles. Video is fun. Mix sounded great (maybe a bit light on bass). BG vocals are amazing-I don't know anyone on the forum who nails them any better. This was a treat all around!! Take care. Greg

Hi ROG,

This is an original song, especially the arrangement. Very nice guitar. Well done.
It's fun to see the story being played by your actors.

Top notch, pro, and all the other superlatives!

The song is so strong to begin with and the
video works really well -- meaning it augments
the audio and never distracting.

We realize that a lot of thought and work went
into this and, wow, did it ever pay off.

Congrats on a fine production and one that'll
we'll pass on to friends.

Hi ROG
I don't recall if I had heard this one or not but I do like it. The contrast between you voice and Courtney's is super. The video is very well done (I am sure you have done this before!).

Hi Alyn.

The sun always shines on Scarborough - you should try it again sometime. I'll even take you surfing if you bring your board!

Many thanks for the nice review. Yes it's me on guitar - Reis can't actually play a note, be he's more handsome. An 80s feel? Well, yes I'll admit to that.

Cheers my old pal. ROG

Charlie

Hi Charlie.

Yes, we certainly enjoyed our day "on location".

What do I prefer about PT over RB? It boots faster! It may seem like a small thing, but in the course of a working day I might boot the program ten times. PT will boot in about 5 seconds, whilst RB takes much longer to load the extra features. With the PT upgrade being so inexpensive, it's worth having both. I even still have a copy of PT2013 running as well, for when the track count gets high - there's more screen space on the old version and even with my 47" monitor you can never have too much space!

Apart from that, there's absolutely no advantage in PT over RB. I always start in PT but switch to RB to add any RTs. If I could only have one, it would have to be RB. Hope that helps.

Regards, ROG

HI ROG. Thanks for your reply. I also appreciate the benefits of small things so I can relate. If friends comes over to jam for a while and I want to record it, I'll fire up my Tascam DP-24 and have it wired up and ready to record before they can tune up. It can record in the same manner of an analog cassette deck and ready in seconds. It's much faster than opening up a laptop, opening up a DAW, getting the interface going and arming/setting tracks.

Because it is inexpensive and has been around for quite some time, I keep looking at PT but the boot up speed advantage would not benefit me as it does for you.

Hi Rog!

I'll echo many of the comments that have been made already... especially the ones about the originality of the arrangement. Your songs (to my ear anyway) tend to be highly original, almost purposefully different from whatever cookie cutter style happens to be the moment's rage.

Loved the guitar solo in all it's glorious reverb! And especially given the originality of the arrangement, it made for a guitar solo that could never be cut and pasted onto another song , as is the case with so many generic solos. That solo was definitely composed for that song only!

The whole production struck me as being somewhat of an homage to your students, almost a graduation gift. Nice the way everybody had a spot that allows them to shine.

I identify with the lyrics, as I'm sure most people would. Who hasn't wanted what he/she can't have? Who hasn't settled for friendship when a more durable relationship was preferred? The ability to identify and develop universal themes is one of your strong points IMO.

I really liked the video... I thought it was very well done. Lots of subtle pro touches that wouldn't happen on an amateur's video. But In my opinion it doesn't storyboard well. A storyboard retells the tale in graphical scenes that represent the points being made in the story. If you removed the song from the video, there's no way in the world I would watch that video and come away with an interpretation anything like the song. But that's just my personal preference about the relationship between a song and its video. Viewed as its own work of art, without putting my own opinionated constraints on it, it is very beautiful and artfully rendered.

I always enjoy your songs Rog... I think you are one of the most creative song writers on the forum, and your ideas always pique my fascination... whether in terms of lyrics, arrangements, cartoon sax players, guitar solos.. it's all awesome when it comes from you! Thanks for adding your magic to the forum!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
