I had to go back and find the original and have a listen.
This was and is a great song. Both versions deliver a memorable performance. I like both versions.
The piano & strings based second version add a new dimension to the song. Which one's better? Well, I'd hate to be the judge on THAT panel.

WOW Bob, what a great arrangement and vocal. I love all the little touches and instruments you weaved in and out with the orchestra and the big dramatic drum flourishes. If I were Noel, I know I'd have a big smile on my face. (Kind of fun to cover another former member's song huh? LOL! Bob, Both Josie's are correct. I'm 1,000% incredibly impressed with what you've brought to this song. I didn't know it could sound so good. Even though I wrote it, that first time I heard what you had done with it, it was like listening to a whole new song.
