Was going to keep out of this, knowing nothing about rhinos, but couldn't resist.

https://soundcloud.com/tuigorge/dead-rhinos-and-me-50905

RD - Blues BB even8
Bass - RT519 pop half notes
Guitar - RT 1026 strumming dirty

Probably an unpopular point of view but i hope you enjoy it. Cheers.

Dead Rhinos and Me

I was thinkin about the rhino, the poacher and the past
All the things that used to be but died they didn't last
With rhino gone the world just wouldnt be the same
But with things changing all the time I wonder who's to blame

The government can't pro-tect them cause it's nearly broke
Some men can't feed family without cheating
And people buy horn powders so they can hold their own
In a so-ciety that's crumbling

Your money's not worth much now de-values every day
What would you do to win a constant battle any-way
Poachers on the ocean in the hills and on the plain
Poachers in the market cheat to see what they can gain

We all live by eating and consumption doesn't hurt
But I hate to see the rhino lying wasted in the dirt
Wouldn't be a problem if we just took what we need
Eventually we'll sink ourselves with selfishnes and greed

The government can't pro-tect them cause it's nearly broke
Some men can't feed family without cheating
And people buy horn powders so they can hold their own
In a so-ciety that's crumbling

It's what we do that matters you know we're all to blame
Ends up with dead rhinos thats such a god-damn shame
Wouldn't be a problem if we just took what we need
Eventually we'll sink ourselves with selfishnes and greed

Hi Rich,

This is an interesting 'protest song' kind of approach to Josie's rhino challenge, and your lyrics cover a diverse range of issues.

As I listened, I found myself wondering what the message would come across like if the lyric's content focus was narrowed a bit. From that thought, your song carried me along to a thought about "Blowin' in the Wind" and got me pondering about how I could use Bob Dylan's work as a model to write a song about rhinos. Interesting! Listening to you inspired me to be creative in ways that I've never thought about before. Thank you for that.

There's no doubting that the more voices that join together in support of the rhino, the more likely it is that something will happen. It's good of you to join in even though you weren't going to.

All the best,
Noel

Well done Richmac!! I am often criticized by those who know me well for being too cynical but I think your point of view is pretty much right on. Cool song!! Take care. Greg

Hi Noel agree with what you say. My songs are all like that. Running on to new ideas before fully developing the last one. I guess I'm a starter rather than a finisher. I guess the message was meant to be that the rhino situation is part of a much larger and more complex problem. Delighted to have spurred you on a little. Cheers.

Thanks Greg. I didn't expect that point of view to be much appreciated so thanks for your comments. And cynical. Yeah. Maybe it comes with age. Cheers.

Hi Alyn. Thank you for the nice comments. And thanks for picking out that line which is pretty much the point of the whole song. Was feeling a bit cynical and depressed when I wrote it. Cheers.

You cast a pretty wide net there...but it worked well.
And as an ole guy who was a young man in 60's
I've certainly certainly heard my share of protest
songs.

Nice to hear this theme approached from another angle.

Enjoyed the listen.
