I have a stereo recording of a gig last Friday with a guy who played his keyboard with a drum machine. The drum machine was recorded low so I thought I would lay down some RD's over the top just for fun. The song is Europa which is a ballad and the tempo is 70. Since he used a drum machine the tempo is fixed but somehow it's not an exact number. My metronome says the tempo is 70 so I first set the tempo in RB, imported the file and generated a drum track and it doesn't match so I decided to try the ACW.

The ACW created a tempo map and it keeps coming up with a tempo of 141.555 in 4/4 time. The song is obviously a ballad at half that speed in 4/4 time. The problem is now any RT/RD's I may want to generate are all going to be at double time.

It seems weird to me that his drum machine is being interpreted as a fractional tempo. I'm sure he just used 70. I guess that's some kind of difference in the internal clock speed between his machine and RB.

Any way to fix this?

Bob

Can you just divide 141.555 by 2, 70.7775, isn't there half time or double drop down in the ACW when you right click on the found tempo ?

I'm doing a whole set at the moment that was recorded with a drum machine that's good as you have the same tempo through out each song, that's better than have to tempo map to a live drummer.
They gave me the tempos the drum machine was set to but the digital tempo on the computer was out by a lot of decimal places.
I just drag the drum track into rb set the tempo to roughly what you think it should be,
line up the first hit to a beat
then go to the end of the track and look where the last beats are sitting,
just zoom in and change the tempo by the last 3 digits after the decimal point manually till the beat lines up,
now go to the start and slide the track if it's out,
then go to the end again and make any tempo adjustment.

In my original video on using the ACW (long ago) I mentioned this. Sometimes you have to use your head. If the ACW thinks it is 144 BPM and you know it should be 72, tell it so, hit play and then hit the F8 key a few times on the 1 of each measure.
The ACW starts looking ahead for peaks and within a few bars usually has created a tempo map at the desired tempo pretty accurately.

Before sending back to RB I suggest listening through t once while watching the bar markers and adjusting as needed (to avoid having to go back later, which always means regenerating any previous work) .
Note the option to cut tempo in half ..

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I had forgotten all about your vid so I just watched it. I'm too literal I guess. I saw the dropdown saying it can do cut time where quarter notes go to half notes and I'm thinking I don't want half notes just give me 4/4 at close to 70 but I followed your instructions and it works great. Yeah the tempo map is not exact but hey, neither is a real drummer so those little variations around 70 sounds fine to me.

The only thing that threw me for a second was after I told it to send to RB, the RB tempo still said 120 (I just started a new file leaving the default tempo alone) and it didn't display the new tempo until I hit Play. I thought something was wrong.

Something else we've talked about a lot. I had the ACW window open and decided to go back to your vid so I lost the focus. When I went back to RB it was hidden and I couldn't do anything until I hit ALT TAB and that brought up a bunch of thumbnails in my taskbar and one of them was the ACW.

Like everything else in life, it's simple once you know it and your vid was very helpful.

Many RealTracks can be set to playback at half time and double time.

If you have 2016 RB version, use the new Record Click Track feature. It is designed to specifically what you are wanting to do.

A demo/tutorial is available in the New Features Post at the top of this forum.
