During last Saturday’s recording session guitarist Danny was playing around with a short riff in Em. Sunday afternoon I “borrowed” that riff and played it on an acoustic guitar then added some bass, flute and congas and called it Danny's Tune . Let me know what you think.

Hey Mario !! This is very peaceful music brother. Great for winding down at the end of a day. I wouldn't change a thing brother. Well, maybe the Conga "rolls." Mechanical in spots. I am digg'n that producer hat you are wearing. Each one is better then the next. This is gorgeous. Trax

Thanx Trax for the great review, especially since this was another three hour quick and dirty special!
I agree about the congas. I found out that I do not have any really good conga samples and using a trap set on this one just didn’t make it for me. So I used what I had. But I’m looking into getting better percussion samples.

You know, I really think you are missing the boat here Mario . . . could be because there's no lake frontage in Hamlin - bad joke I know. There is a real market out there for music in television and movies and a lot is being created in home studios. You make contacts through A & R groups like Taxi.com. Check out their website (no I'm not a member yet) and see what they can do for you. Seems a shame - you got a real talent for creating these "slices of life" music passages. Wish my ears could appreciate them more. Love the mood of this one. Was the flute a wind controller? What mic are you using on the acoustic? Cheers

Hi Mario,
Cool tune.........and well done. +1 on the congas, they seem to be throughout the song and though in the background, they appeart to be competing with the laid back rhythm of the tune's foundation.
I would keep them only in certain key spots for a nice fill maybe. Other than that, superb.

Thanx Ian for the very kind words. I’ll take a look at Taxi.com soon. Thanx for the tip and making my head very big The flute was my EWI-USB wind controller. I’m finally getting a little time to play with it. Life is getting in the way of my music BTW – Hamlin is located on Lake Ontario. We are located about 4 miles from the lake. PS – We should have some interesting hockey conversations this year

Toucher, thanx for listening, the kind review and the conga suggestions. I’ll try those out after I get some time and some new conga samples.

Nice tune , and good job with the flute. I think it's hard to use midi congas convincingly. Maybe finding a track that has the feel that you like and playing the other instruments to it might be worth a try. Jack Johnson uses congas a lot and has a good result with them.

Mario, Happy this one was bumped or I would have missed it. Re: the producer hat . . . I think Ian and Eddie said it best. I just don't want you to put up the geetar for too long brother. Oh the tune, I liked it also, it was a very easy listen. Later,

Outstanding flute work! Guitar sounds right, too. And there are certainly RD congas with a little more human touch. Very atmospheric track. Would suit in many cinematic settings, but also on a Calexico album. Nice! - Jepster

Jepster, thanx a bunch for the extremely kind review.
I’m in the early novice stage of my EWI-USB wind controller learning curve. I may master it in a few years.

Hi Mario, What can I say? This is yet another sensational work from the studios of MarioD. I really like it. I agree with the drums. There's a lot of energy in the percussion section and, to my hearing, this is at logger-heads with the reflective nature of the music. Have you played around with a sparse 8-beat at all? It's just my opinion, but a minimalistic percussion section could really enhance this work. (I was just having a listen through BIAB styles and the demo song for TENDER.STY when played at 60 bpm is something like what I'm hearing.) You really come up with some great ideas, Mario. I agree with the TAXI suggestion. You production is good and if you and assemble works at broadcast quality, you'd have absolutely no problem getting them in to TV or Films.
