I might not be understanding this feature. I understand that I can export my different tracks using the save as AIFF feature. Cool if I want to use those tracks in a program such as logic or garage band or whatever.
My question is: is there a way I can reduce the render time of songs I already use? I like playing my tunes in BIAB, but I don't like the render time on some of these more "realtracks" intense tunes. does that save as AIFF feature help me to reduce that time somehow? If I render those tracks into the appropriate folders, will the program use that previously rendered file next time I play the tune?

Hi Benny,

I think you may be referring to the amount of time it takes a BIAB song to generate a song that includes RealTracks and not really referring to "rendering" a song here. "Rendering" is the act of automatically converting the entire song to an Audio file without having to record it play back from end to end. Rendering can work when your MIDI is being played by a softsynth.

The amount of time it takes for BIAB to generate the RealTracks after a song has been loaded and you hit the Play button for the first time is dependant upon the speed and power of your computer processor and associated hardwares such as amount of RAM available, disk throughput speed, etc.

There will always be some kind of wait state there, but what we really need to know is your average wait time in seconds to load a known song in order to compare that to what others are experiencing. I suggest you pick one of the PGMusic RealTrack Demo songs for this one so that others can load the same exact song at their end and report the loading times before the song plays.

Of course, if you are low on RAM, that's the first step to take anyway, no matter what.

Ah.. thanks Mac... Yeah... what I meant to say what will rendering the AIFF files help speed up when the song is generated? In other words... I render the AIFF file for my bass part on a tune, and I save it to the default location. The next time I open up that tune, is there a way to have it use that pre-rendered bass part to speed up the generation process?

In the meanwhile, I'll grab one of the demo songs and generate it while timing it. I've got a macbook 2.2 Ghz with 4BG or RAM. Should be enough, no?

The Macintosh ver of BIAB doesn't yet have an Audio Track in it. If it did, then you could put things there and they would be ready to play as soon as the song was selected. I think there will be an Audio Track in the Mac version some day, but can't tell you when. Let us pray.

That is exactly what I've got here. Assuming that your "BG" is a typo, that is. I'm running 4GB. RealTrack loading times are not too bad, I can use it in Live Performance work, but I do try to remember to select and load the next song as soon as the last one is done, "covering" that little bit of time, about 20 to 40 seconds typically, for RealTracks to load and be ready. When it is not Live Performance, I don't care about loading times.

Benny, I also have a MacBook, 2.2 processor, 4gb memory I just loaded 7 songs all with "Real" instruments.
All were 3 choruses long and the load times were as follows (in seconds)- 26,27,21,35,33,34 and one song that was "unfolded" that took 40 sec. That seems typical for most of my load times although while I am waiting it seems forever compared to the older midi versions of the same songs.
I also convert to AIFF for use in Logic and Garageband but I thought that was only a step needed so that those programs were able to import to Logic and GB. I do have to admit I don't completely understand that part of transferring songs or information from one program to another.

I found this today, kind of what I thought.

AIFF stands for "Audio Interchange File Format." AIFF is an audio format originally developed by Apple Computer for storing high-quality sampled audio data. AIFF files are similar to Windows WAVE files in both size and quality. Both AIFF and WAVE files can hold CD quality audio and therefore can be burned onto an audio CD. Though the AIFF format was created by Apple, audio programs on both the Mac and PC can typically read the files.

Both the AIFF and WAV formats are PCM (Pulse Code Modulated) digital audio files.

Matter of fact, the only real difference between the two are the file headers that tell the OS what to do with 'em.

Conversion back and forth is a rather easy piece of coding, even the free Audacity program can do that for you.
