I tend to create several parts save them as waves pull them into a daw (lately I use Reaper because it is easier to manipulate tracks by cut, copy and paste). I duplicate the tracks at least once (mute the duplicates), I then select the parts I want slide them where I want them in my keeper track.

For example, I had a song that has a nice pedal steel part but it was in a verse where I wanted less so I cut it out of the verse put it into a chorus where I wanted it. Then in my duplicated track cut a part from the chorus put it back in the verse. A couple of minutes and all was done.

I have sometimes generated an entire song a couple of times then mixed and matched parts of tracks to suit.

Just another method for getting things the way I like them.
